SUMMARY:The American Revolution: A story of the War in 28 Paintings
DESCRIPTION:1776 was more than a turning point; it marked the birth of a new world order. A bold line was drawn as ordinary people made extraordinary decisions\, declaring independence from the most powerful empire on earth. Driven by youthful fire\, they believed in the promise of liberty more than they feared the cost of pursuing it.\nHistoric Beverly proudly presents The American Revolution: A story of the War in 28 Paintings\, a once-in-a-lifetime exhibition of artworks commissioned to illustrate Senator Henry Cabot Lodge Sr.’s landmark book.\nThese paintings are featured in Ken Burns’ upcoming documentary The American Revolution. The exhibit will be on display at the Cabot House from September 6\, 2025 to July 4\, 2026. Tickets are free and open to the public

SUMMARY:Sinister Streets: Witch Trials\, Murders & Literary Legends
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a behind-the-scenes tour featuring architectural treasures from PEM’s collection! The only walking tours in Salem that offer entry into historic buildings\, PEM’s tours cover five centuries of happenings and characters from Witch City\, including the infamous trials of 1692. \nSinister Streets: Witch Trials\, Murders and Literary Legends starts by painting the picture of life in 1692 by examining the Gardner-Pingree House. The killing of Joseph White gripped Salem and the country in 1830 with its brawling brothers\, custom-built murder weapons\, conspiring family members and a body that was autopsied three times. Follow PEM’s expert guides into the room where it happened – if you dare! \nThis is an indoor/outdoor tour. Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. We’ll see you rain or shine! \nThis tour involves walking around 0.5 miles\, standing on hard surfaces and the use of stairs. Historic structures are not ADA accessible. Strollers may be used on the tours\, but may not be brought into any of the historic structures. Historic houses may include areas of low lighting and uneven surfaces. Assisted listening devices are available\, and tour guides will use microphones. \nYou can also follow our expert guides on Brick by Brick: Salem’s Hidden Architectural Stories for an in-depth look at architecture across downtown Salem\, from a millionaire’s mansion to a working-class sailor’s house.

SUMMARY:Hammers on Stone: The Granite Industry on Cape Ann
DESCRIPTION:For over a century\, the granite industry played a vital role in Cape Ann’s economy\, providing work for men from across New England and around the world\, generating profits for those fortunate enough to share in ownership of the region’s many quarries\, and contributing to the unique and authentic sense of place that characterizes Cape Ann today. On a broader scale\, the industry contributed significantly to building and transportation projects across our nation during a sustained period of growth and expansion. \nDrawing on the Cape Ann Museum’s extensive holdings of objects and archival materials related to the industry\, most of which were gifted to the Cape Ann Museum by historian Barbara Erkkila (1918-2013)\, Hammers on Stone will explore the history of the granite trade and its impact on the community. The exhibition will examine methods of harvesting\, cutting\, and finishing stone\, as well as how granite was transported from quarry to wharf and further afield. The exhibit will also explore the lives of those involved in quarrying and consider how the industry helped shape Cape Ann’s artistic landscape\, inspiring generations of artists to the present day. \nImage: Samuel Lewis Pullman (1900-1961)\, Quarryman Joe Boston\, 1930\, oil on canvas. Whether it’s collaborating with other local businesses in our area (FRANK / Crave / Wandering Soul/ Fat Tuna Charters/ Half Baked) or giving back to the place that has given us so much (Beverly Hospital/HarborLight community partners) . \nThis idea of community rings true in our taproom as well. Our space has become a meeting place to hear local musicians\, enjoy local artists\, and get a taste of various foods in the Beverly area . It’s also a space where we would like ALL members of our community to feel welcome and accepted. For many\, craft breweries can sometimes feel exclusive and intimidating for those that don’t consider themselves “beer nerds” and this is a notion we will always work hard to dispel. We believe beer should be fun/accepting and our goal is to always have a variety of beers that speak to a wide audience. \nUnder 21 policy: Please contact Old Planters Brewery for details regarding underage entry \nFor more about Bonsai Bar and what to expect at our classes\, visit our website at: https://bonsaibar.com/products/old-planters-brewery

SUMMARY:Wisdom Keeping: Abenaki Stories & Storytelling Traditions
DESCRIPTION:Traditional Native American storyteller and historian of European and Abenaki heritage\, Anne Jennison will give a performance of Traditional Abenaki stories at Appleton Farms in Ipswich\, MA. \nAppleton Farms sits on part of the land also known as Agawam\, within the traditional lands of the Pennacook Abenaki confederacy. The Abenaki Peoples have an ancient history and rich cultural heritage\, including a vast legacy of stories. Traditional Abenaki stories were\, and are\, meant for audiences of all ages – the entire community. The stories tell of the world’s creation\, the creation of the aki (the land)\, the nebi (the water)\, the first awaasak (animal people)\, the first alnobak (human beings)\, and teach us how to live in balance with one another. The stories are filled with action\, drama\, wonder\, and even moments of humor. \nIn this program\, Anne Jennison\, a traditional Northeast Woodlands Native American storyteller\, begins and ends her performance with a traditional song accompanied by her frame drum and – in between – shares some of these Abenaki stories in a way that is interactive as well as entertaining. Anne will also explain how the stories have been\, and continue to be\, passed down from one generation to the next as well as the role of storytelling and the storyteller within the context of Abenaki culture. \nAbout our Guest Performer: Anne Jennison is a traditional Native American storyteller. Anne’s storytelling skills have been polished by more than 30 years of experience sharing Indigenous lesson stories with audiences of all kinds. With Master Degrees in both Storytelling and History\, Anne also brings a wealth of cultural and historical knowledge to enrich her retelling of timeless Abenaki & Wabanaki stories. Anne is listed on the New Hampshire Traditional Artists Roster as a traditional Abenaki storyteller & craftsperson and on the New England Foundation for the Arts roster as a Teaching Artist and a Touring Artist. \nAnne is also the current Chair for the NH Commission on Native American Affairs and a member of the Indigenous NH Collaborative Collective (http://www.indigenousnh.com). Additionally\, she is an Affiliate Faculty member for the University of New Hampshire’s Native American and Indigenous Studies (NAIS) Minor\, a co-creator of the “People of the Dawnland” interpretive exhibit about the Abenaki/Wabanaki peoples as well as a consultant for the Abenaki Heritage Initiative at Strawbery Banke Museum in Portsmouth\, NH.
