SUMMARY:Family Explorer: Winter Wildlife Walk at Crane Beach
DESCRIPTION:A CraneExplorer Family Winter Wildlife Walk will take you on a stroll through the Crane Beach dunes while learning about some of the plants and animals that call this special place home. You may be familiar with Crane Beach\, but have you ever visited the dune trails? The dunes of Castle Neck are a much less explored world unto themselves. They offer one of the most accessible dune landscapes in New England and trails that provide a firsthand look into the delicate and ever-changing dune habitat. This includes numerous lookouts offering stunning views of Choate Island and the varied ecosystems of Castle Neck\, including Pitch Pine forests and naturally occurring cranberry bogs. \nThe Family Explorer hiking series will get you and your young explorers outside and moving at Trustees properties across the Northeast Region. These family-friendly hikes cover less ground to accommodate smaller strides and have more frequent stops to look\, listen\, and learn from our Outdoor Guides. Some hikes will start with a story\, hands-on demonstration\, or explorers’ challenge to spark curiosity before hitting the trail. \nSign up for one\, or get a discount if you sign up for three or more in the series. Contact Craneoutdoors@thetrustees.org for discount code.

SUMMARY:Altus
DESCRIPTION:Led by visionary trumpeter and composer Dave Adewumi\, Altus is a dynamic quintet redefining the modern jazz experience. Whether on stage in an intimate club or a concert hall\, Altus delivers performances that are immersive\, adventurous\, and profoundly human. Their sound invites audiences to listen beyond genre—to experience jazz not only as music\, but as a living myth. \nFree\, reservations encouraged.\nLocation: Ipswich High School \nFormed from long-standing musical friendships\, the ensemble’s chemistry is palpable. Adewumi’s luminous trumpet leads dialogues with saxophones\, bass\, and drums that blur the boundaries between structure and spontaneity. Each performance unfolds like a story—alive with surprise\, tension\, and release—drawing listeners into a journey of sound that feels both ancient and urgently new. Their debut album\, Mythos (Biophilia Records)\, captures the group’s creative ethos. Inspired by Greek and Yoruba mythology\, the music explores themes of creation\, rebellion\, and transcendence\, reflecting Adewumi’s deep curiosity about the connections between narrative and sound. The result is music that is at once cerebral and visceral\, rich in emotional nuance yet unafraid of risk. \nA rising voice in the contemporary jazz landscape\, Adewumi has performed alongside some of today’s leading artists\, earning recognition for his distinctive tone and expressive approach. With Altus\, he channels that artistry into a collective vision—one that celebrates improvisation as a form of storytelling and performance as a shared act of imagination.

SUMMARY:“Better Must Come”: A Conversation with Desmond Hall
DESCRIPTION:Join the Peabody Institute Library of Danvers for a special community-wide event with Desmond Hall\, author of the Massachusetts Book Awards–honored novel Better Must Come. In advance of the author’s visit\, the novel will be featured in a book club open to the general public at the library\, inviting readers to engage deeply with the book. The program will conclude with an in-person author talk at the library\, where Hall will discuss the inspirations behind Better Must Come\, his path as a writer\, and the real-world issues that shaped the novel\, followed by a Q&A and book signing. \nBetter Must Come follows two teens\, Deja and Gabriel\, who are searching for ways to lift themselves and their families out of difficult and often dangerous circumstances. Set against a backdrop of gang violence\, familial abandonment\, and the pressures of survival\, the novel delivers an edge-of-your-seat story rooted in urgency and resilience. At its heart\, it also offers a tender romance\, showing how young love can take root and thrive even amid turmoil. Better Must Come is a powerful and timely exploration of perseverance\, courage\, and hope in the face of overwhelming odds. \nThis program is sponsored by the Mass Book Awards Speakers Bureau and is presented in collaboration with the Massachusetts Center for the Book. \nDESMOND HALL was born in Jamaica\, West Indies\, and moved to Jamaica\, Queens. He is the author of the acclaimed young adult novels Your Corner Dark and Better Must Come\, the latter a Massachusetts Book Awards Honors title. His work often draws on personal and historical contexts to create fast-paced\, emotionally resonant stories for teen readers. He currently lives in the Boston area with his family.
