SUMMARY:Music in the Atrium: Celebrate Mother Earth with Johnny Fireseed
DESCRIPTION:Know before you go\nIn-person event\nLocation: Atrium \nIncluded with admission\nSalem residents and workers always get free admission. \nThis program will contribute to the sound in the Atrium. If you would like to borrow noise canceling headphones\, please pick up a KultureCity bag at the coatroom. \nABOVE IMAGE: Illustrations by Chris Cyr. \nThis month\, our Music in the Atrium series celebrates Planet Earth with live performances by Johnny Fireseed. A project of Framingham-based Fireseed Arts Studios\, lead by artist and musician Patiño Vázquez in collaboration with local musicians and craftspeople\, Johnny Fireseed uses instruments made entirely from upcycled trash and repurposed items to perform original music with an upbeat eco message. The band’s inspiring sound aims to spread a message of joy\, fun and new ways of thinking about consumption and waste far and wide. \nVázquez will be showcasing instruments made from locally harvested trash and live looping to create ambient soundscapes. Come hear high-end electric guitars made from old kitchen countertops and drums fashioned from ventilation ducts and popcorn tins in an aesthetic that’s “part Victorian Steampunk with elements of mystic meditations in heart-opening layers of rhythms and harmonies.” Building loops and then improvising over the loops gives the listener a feel for the looks and sound characteristics of each instrument. Audience members are often invited to join in the fun! \nMusic in the Atrium is PEM’s live concert series that features local and visiting performers from a variety of musical traditions and styles. Concerts take place on select Sundays. Explore upcoming shows at pem.org/events.

SUMMARY:Foreigners Journey - A Tribute to Foreigner and Journey
DESCRIPTION:From power ballads like “I Want to Know What Love Is\,” and “Faithfully” to anthems like “Jukebox Hero\,” “Stone In Love\,” “Cold As Ice\,” “Separate Ways\,” and “Don’t Stop Believin’.” Foreigners Journey are more than a tribute band. They’re a time machine\, and their energy is infectious. \nAlmost any music fan who came of age in the 1980s will cite Foreigner and Journey as bands that sound tracked their young life\, bands that are forever lodged in their mind. Back then\, the two acts might have been separated by an ocean\, but together they helped define the “magic era” of classic rock. \nAt one point not too long ago\, they toured the world as a one-two combination\, but don’t count on it happening again. Luckily\, you can count on Foreigners Journey\, a veritable tribute-band supergroup\, to deliver the unforgettable experience of seeing both bands in one knockout show.

SUMMARY:Folk Electric: Wayfaring Stranger
DESCRIPTION:Scott Moore and Erica Pisaturo\, the husband-and-wife team behind Folk Electric\, describe their ambitious new work “Wayfaring Stranger” as “a genre-bending\, multi-sensory adventure: a kaleidoscopic journey through time\, sound\, and imagination.” Comprising a stellar cast of musicians from as far away as North Carolina and Kentucky\, the band will take over Rockport’s celebrated concert hall to perform their hour-long opus\, then migrate to the third floor for an afterparty set of unplugged (but just as electrifying) music\, while surrounded by an array of brand new Folk Electric-inspired paintings by Matthew Billey and Loren Doucette. \nWorld premiere performance of ‘ Folk Electric: Wayfaring Stranger’
