SUMMARY:Coastal Hike & Climate Café
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a hike and climate café discussion on May 18th 12-3pm at Castle Hill on the Crane Estate. The event will start with a ~2-mile Cedar Point hike through the forest\, marsh\, dunes\, and beach\, to observe and discuss our changing coastlines. Then we will head back to the Casino at Castle Hill for a climate cafe discussion. \nClimate cafés are community discussions about environmental issues. These teen-led discussions invite participants to discuss and learn more about the environment\, how humans are imacting it\, and how we can take action to be better citizens of the earth. Our teen leaders will share a few issues and questions\, and then participants will discuss in small groups and then share out at the end. The goal of the session is to CLARIFY environmental issues impacting our community\, CONNECT different members and groups of the community around a central issue that matters to everyone\, and CREATE solutions that can be scaled up to help the environment. \nThis is a youth-led event and youth (or anyone) interested in environmental advocacy is encouraged to join us. \nLearn more about climate cafés here: https://www.climate-cafe.org/ \nAccessibility: This hike has an moderate level of difficulty\, and requires hiking 2-3 miles on unpaved and sandy trails\, with moderate elevation gain for approximately 2 hours.

SUMMARY:Revolutionary Tea on a Gambrel Roof
DESCRIPTION:A dramatization of ‘A Gambrel Roof’\, a poem by Lucy Larcom. \nA creative multi-disciplinary theatrical presentation of a circa 1875 local poem about the historic Danvers Jeremiah Page House. Period music\, and an art installation add to the illustration of the story: \nIn about 1770\, when the British monarchy started taxing tea in the colonies\, Jeremiah told Sarah that “no tea shall be drunk in this house”.  However\, while her husband was away one day\, Sarah and two friends secretly had their tea ON the roof of the house.  In Sarah’s words\, “Upon a house is not within it”\, so she was still obeying her husband’s wishes.  This story was told to Anne L. Page\, Jeremiah’s granddaughter\, by a family friend many years later. Anne then told it to her friend Lucy Larcom\, the famous Beverly poet.  Lucy romanticized the story in the poem “A Gambrel Roof” written as the 100th birthday of our nation approached and published in the Atlantic Monthly. \nThere will be a Q&A session after the production. \nWheelchair accessible building and parking available. Additional parking in the Elm Street lot. \nDonations appreciated \nWe are proud to participate in Mass Cultural Council’s Card to Culture program. \nDanvers Historical Society: 978-777-1666 or E-mail to connect@danvershistory.org

SUMMARY:Darlin’ Corey with Rani Arbo & Daisy Mayhem
DESCRIPTION:Darlin’ Corey features the singing and playing of three accomplished musicians of the thriving music scene of Portland\, ME. Award winning fiddler and singer Erica Brown on fiddle\, guitar\, vocals\, notable songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Matt Shipman on guitar\, vocals\, mandolin\, bouzouki\, banjo and Portland’s favorite bass player Kris Day\, who has also toured with legends like Link Wray\, Dale Hawkins\, Ronnie Dawson and Joe Clay. \nTheir music is a diverse and unique blend of folk with influences from bluegrass and old time music. Drawing on these threads of North American folk music\, their elegant harmonies are the beating heart of their sound\, in both their original music and the traditional old time\, bluegrass and New England influenced music they regularly showcase. In Darlin’ Corey’s singing and playing\, you can feel the many years of dedication to these celebrated musical traditions. \nTogether they create an engaging performance of thoughtful originals\, traditional songs and tunes\, and songs that influenced them along the way. Erica Brown’s fiddle-playing is at turns virtuosic and completely unpretentious. Matt Shipman is an ideal counterpart as his versatility on a dizzying array of stringed instruments (guitar\, Irish bouzouki\, 5-string banjo\, mandolin) blend seamlessly\, never timid or overpowering. Kris Day holds it all together with his solid bass playing.

SUMMARY:Nicky Smigs
DESCRIPTION:Born and raised in Arlington Heights\, IL\, Nick Smeriglio’s journey into entertainment began with an improv program at the renowned Second City Chicago. With a marketing degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee\, WI\, Nick’s early career took a different path. From ages 22-26\, he worked various jobs\, including a year as a recruiter\, a year selling bread\, and two years in ad sales at Paramount. It was at Paramount that Nick decided to follow his passion for comedy\, quitting his job after being booked for his first stand-up shows in the spring of 2021.\nThe COVID-19 pandemic struck just a week after his final Second City show\, forcing Nick to move back to his parents’ house in the suburbs. TikTok became his only creative outlet\, where he began posting skits featuring his three known impressions: Christopher Walken\, Tony Soprano\, and Sebastian Maniscalco. By the fall of 2020\, his videos had gained significant attention\, leading to unexpected offers from East Coast stand-up clubs. Despite never having performed stand-up before\, Nick took the plunge and booked his first weekend of shows at three different clubs in New York and New Jersey for April 2021.\nIn October 2021\, Nick moved to New York City to pursue his comedy and acting career full-time. His dedication paid off as he quickly made a name for himself in the comedy circuit. An 11-day\, nine-show tour paved the way for a headlining gig at the iconic Caroline’s on Broadway in Times Square. He also performed six shows at the Chicago Improv with fellow Italian-American comedian and mentor\, Anthony Rodia.\nNick’s career continued to soar as he traveled to Burbank\, California\, to perform alongside Jay Leno in November 2021. Back in Chicago\, he appeared on WGN-TV and 670 AM The Score\, showcasing his comedic talents with a skit about celebrities firing former Chicago Bears Head Coach Matt Nagy.\nIn addition to his stand-up and acting pursuits\, Nick performs with the sketch group “”I Mostly Blame Myself\,”” which secured a spot at the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland in August 2024. He has also taken on roles in television commercials\, hosted and emceed corporate sales meetings and trade shows nationwide\, and performed at various charity events in Chicago’s Edison Park neighborhood. Nick Smeriglio’s journey from suburban Chicago to the vibrant New York comedy scene is a testament to his resilience\, talent\, and unwavering passion for entertainment.
