SUMMARY:Celesong
DESCRIPTION:Join Wellspring for their Spring celebration\, Celesong\, an incredible musical evening in the tradition of a Nashville-style songwriters’ round featuring acclaimed singer-songwriters Darrell Scott\, Lori McKenna and Mark Erelli. You are invited to join Wellspring for their annual fundraising event and celebrate your commitment to helping local families transform their lives through stable housing\, education\, job training\, and career readiness. \nABOUT THE ARTISTS\nDarrell Scott\nDarrell Scott is an acclaimed multi-instrumentalist / singer-songwriter and Nashville Songwriter hall of Fame nominee. His songs have been performed by Travis Tritt\, Faith Hill\, The Chicks (formerly Dixie Chicks)\, and many others. A former ASCAP and NSAI Songwriter of the Year\, Scott has garnered many accolades\, Nathaniel Riverhorse Nakadate writes\, “Darrell Scott mines and cultivates the everyday moment\, taking the rote\, menial\, mundane\, and allowing it to be surreal\, ever poignant\, and candidly honest.” \nLori McKenna\nFrom her home base in Boston\, Lori McKenna has carved out an enviable niche for herself as one of Nashville’s most in-demand songwriters\, all while maintaining a prolific and remarkably consistent career as a solo artist. The release of her anticipated album\,1988\, adds to a series of landmark years for McKenna and follows three widely acclaimed albums: 2016’s The Bird & The Rifle\, 2018’s The Tree and 2020’s The Balladeer\, of which the Associated Press praised\, “McKenna has by now long established herself as one of the best songwriters working in any genre. And she does it again and again\,” while The Tennessean asserted\, “one of the sharpest pens in modern country and folk song writing.” \nIn addition to her career as a solo artist\, McKenna continues to enjoy success as one of the music industry’s most in-demand song writers. In 2023\, she was nominated for a Grammy for Best Country Song for co-writing “I Bet You Think About Me (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault)\,” performed by Taylor Swift. In 2017\, McKenna became the first woman to win the Academy of Country Music’s Songwriter of the Year award and the first woman to win the Country Music Association’s Song of the Year award two years in a row. She also won back-to-back Grammys for Best Country Song: for “Girl Crush\,” performed by Little Big Town\, in 2016 and “Humble and Kind\,” performed by Tim McGraw\, in 2017. In 2021\, McKenna won her third Best Country Song Grammy for co-writing “Crowded Table\,” performed by the Highwomen\, with Brandi Carlile and Natalie Hemby. In addition to writing songs for a multitude of award-winning artists—including Hunter Hayes\, Faith Hill\, Miranda Lambert\, Little Big Town\, Reba McEntire\, Tim McGraw and Carrie Underwood—McKenna also co-wrote “Always Remember Us This Way\,” which was featured in the Oscar-winning 2018 film “A Star Is Born.” \nMark Erelli\nMark Erelli is a critically acclaimed American singer-songwriter and guitarist known for his distinctive blend of rock\, folk\, and Americana. His music is known for its lyrical depth and intricate instrumentation\, drawing influence from classic rock icons. Highlights from Erelli’s career include 13 solo albums; three records with his bluegrass band Barnstar!; sideman stints accompanying Marc Cohn\, Paula Cole\, and Josh Ritter; and a pair of records he produced for GRAMMY-winning songwriter Lori McKenna. \nIn the summer of 2020\, he faced a profound personal challenge when he was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa (RP)\, a degenerative eye disease\, after a two decade-long career. This diagnosis raised questions about how his diminishing eyesight might affect his songwriting and creative insight. These concerns and his quest for creative expression are central themes in his newest album\, Lay Your Darkness Down. \nLay Your Darkness Down follows his 2020 album Blindsided\, which received high praise from Rolling Stone Country\, Associated Press\, NPR\, The Boston Globe\, and other notable outlets. Folk Alley encourages people to “listen close; there’s sure to be something in there to break your heart a split second before it leads you straight to grace.” Whether he’s wielding a pen or a Telecaster\, Mark Erelli’s music welcomes the casual listener\, and richly rewards those who choose to dig deeper. \nLifting Voices Together\nThroughout the night\, you’ll have the opportunity to support Wellspring’s critical programs to bring housing\, job training\, education and career readiness to thousands of community members who are working with us to transform their futures. In addition to incredible performances from three nationally acclaimed artists\, Wellspring will have a paddle raise\, plus a fun live auction to support their valuable programs and services. \nTicket Prices: $150\, $125\, $100 \nVIP EXPERIENCE: Additional $100/person added to any ticket – limited availability\nPre-concert Cocktail reception at Shalin Liu Performance Center in the third floor reception hall

SUMMARY:The Importance of Being Furnished: Four Bachelors at Home Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Join Wheaton College professor R. Tripp Evans for an exploration of his latest book\, The Importance of Being Furnished: Four Bachelors at Home\, a portrait of four fascinating men who shaped American style from the Gilded to the Jazz Age yet whose lives have until now remained in shadow. \nPioneers in the fields of professional interior decoration and historic preservation\, they include Charles L. Pendleton (1846-1904)\, a reclusive gambler who built one of his era’s collections of eighteenth-century furniture; renowned interior decorator Ogden Codman\, Jr. (1863-1951)\, who inherited his ancestors’ vices along with their “Boston Brahmin” pedigree; writer Charles H. Gibson\, Jr. (1874-1954)\, who transformed his Back Bay home into a personal literary shrine and monument to his own beauty; and Henry Davis Sleeper (1878-1934)\, who created his Eastern Point masterpiece\, Beauport\, for the love of the man next door. The stories of these “surprisingly domestic bachelors” (as the press dubbed them) reveal the complicated depths beneath their homes’ brilliant surfaces\, as well as their connections to fellow bachelor-preservationists like Joseph Everett Chandler\, architect of Stevens-Coolidge House and Gardens.

SUMMARY:Walking Tour: Patriots and Privateers of Revolutionary Middle Street
DESCRIPTION:Cape Ann Museum Courtyard\, Downtown Campus\n27 Pleasant St\, Gloucester\, MA\, 01930\n$10 for CAM Members\, $20 for non-members\nRegistration Required \nAs a seaport town jutting into the Atlantic\, Gloucester was of strategic importance during the American Revolution and always under threat of attack. The people of the town stood ready to take action against the British\, and many of them did. In this walking tour down Middle Street — one of Gloucester’s oldest streets – we will step back in time to meet people who were witness to Revolution right from this spot; see where they lived and gathered\, in houses still standing today; and hear the stories of the roles they played in defending liberty\, as patriots\, privateers\, preachers and more. This tour was developed in conjunction with the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution. \nStroll with a CAM Docent for about 1 1/2 hours as you walk Middle Street in downtown Gloucester. \nWhere to Meet?\nThough the Downtown Campus is currently closed for renovations until the spring of 2026\, the tour will gather at the courtyard attached to the Museum on 27 Pleasant Street. Tours are light rain or shine. \nPhoto Credit: CAM docent leading walking tour rain or shine\, CAM staff photo.
