SUMMARY:Newburyport Art presents "Coming Home"
DESCRIPTION:Newburyport Art (NAA) presents Coming Home\, a multi-disciplinary exhibit curated by Artist and NAA Executive Director Belle Carver Struck. \nComing Home invites Newburyport creatives who grew up in the community and now make their home elsewhere — to “come home” and share how it formed their practice. Their work is juxtaposed with creatives who carved out their adult creative practice in Newburyport. The exhibit features visual art\, film\, music and writing. \nThis exhibit will include a free opening reception on Sunday\, July 27th from 4-6pm\, as well as a ticketed panel discussion moderated by local storyteller\, actor\, and educator Paul Wann on Monday\, July 28th from 6-8pm. The panel will include; Michael Angelis\, Kate Bolick\, Nikole Beckwith\, Paul-Emile Cendron\, Carmela Murphy\, Sam Szabo\, Gordon Przybyla\, and Edward Speck. \nTickets to the panel discussion can be purchased online at newburyportart.org – space is limited! \nOn view alongside Coming Home will be 30 Under 30\, featuring 30 artworks by artists under the age of 30. A reception for 30 Under 30 will be held on August 9th from 4-6pm. \nThe galleries are free and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00am–5:00pm and Sunday (Summer 2025 Hours) from 10:00am–2:00pm. Newburyport Art is closed on Mondays. The ground-floor Hills Gallery has an accessible entrance. More information\, as well as an online gallery is available at newburyportart.org. \nFounded in 1948\, Newburyport Art is dedicated to promoting and exhibiting members’ work and to providing art education and access to the visual arts for the entire community.

SUMMARY:Bonsai Workshop at Old Planters Brewery
DESCRIPTION:Beginner workshops are perfect for you to grab your friends\, grab a drink and come make tiny trees! We’re bringing the awesome art of bonsai out of the hedged in gardens and into the streets! Or at least into your favorite bars/breweries/pubs. Bonsai Bar is a night of fun you don’t want to miss. Learn the fundamental skills and techniques behind the art of bonsai while enjoying a night out with friends! Our teachers will introduce core concepts and guide your experience as you pot\, prune\, and design your very own bonsai tree! Our Guarantee: These tiny trees are so hardy we guarantee you can keep yours alive\, or we’ll replace it. \nThis workshop will be hosted at Old Planters Brewery. Our goal has always been to be firmly rooted in our community with everything we do. Whether it’s collaborating with other local businesses in our area (FRANK / Crave / Wandering Soul/ Fat Tuna Charters/ Half Baked) or giving back to the place that has given us so much (Beverly Hospital/HarborLight community partners) . \nThis idea of community rings true in our taproom as well. Our space has become a meeting place to hear local musicians\, enjoy local artists\, and get a taste of various foods in the Beverly area . It’s also a space where we would like ALL members of our community to feel welcome and accepted. For many\, craft breweries can sometimes feel exclusive and intimidating for those that don’t consider themselves “beer nerds” and this is a notion we will always work hard to dispel. We believe beer should be fun/accepting and our goal is to always have a variety of beers that speak to a wide audience. \nUnder 21 policy: Please contact Old Planters Brewery for details regarding underage entry \nFor more about Bonsai Bar and what to expect at our classes\, visit our website at: https://bonsaibar.com/products/old-planters-brewery

SUMMARY:First Shot of the American Revolution?
DESCRIPTION:Did you know there was a shot fired in Danvers\, MA during August of 1774? \nGeneral Gage’s “87 Days at Danvers” June 2 – August 27\, 1774 \nA presentation and discussion of what should be viewed as the First Campaign of the American Revolutionary War. And\, contrary to popular thought\, within that ‘juggernaut’ perhaps the ‘First’ shot fired in that War possibly occurring in Danvers Massachusetts on August 24\, 1774. \nUnbelievably what occurred during those crucial 87 days has been vastly ignored and dismissed by virtually every history professional. What few who mentioned that period touched upon it lightly – noting nothing worthy of mention. Some describing Governor-General Gage’s time on the North Shore as a geopolitical campaign\, inferring that it was more of a summer vacation – it was not. \nThis talk is to review the mosaic of known facts significantly pertinent to the American Revolutionary War which occurred during those 87 days and put into perspective the overt acts of revolt which both preceded and followed that time.

DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, August 21\, 2025\n10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.\nCarlson Education Center\, CAM Green\n13 Poplar Street\, Gloucester\, MA\nCAM Members Free\, Non-Members $5\nRegistration required as space is limited \nDespite having no formal artistic training\, Childe Hassam (1859-1935) was a successful illustrator early in his life\, and soon became instrumental in developing Impressionism in the United States in the late 19th century. He spent some summers in Gloucester\, joining several major American painters in the region at the invitation of Frank Duveneck (1848-1919). Join us to learn about Hassam’s work\, the art colonies he participated in\, and his Impressionist view of Gloucester. \nYou are invited to join us every Thursday for a unique experience. Led by a CAM docent\, these deep dives into a single artwork or object from the Collection will begin with conversation\, a short presentation and complimentary coffee at the Carlson Education Center\, followed by a special trip to the James Center to view the object being discussed. No special knowledge needed! Just a curiosity to learn more in a small group setting and enjoy a unique experience. \nImage credit: Childe Hassam (1859-1935)\, Harbor of a Thousand Masts\, 1922.
