SUMMARY:Tower of Power
DESCRIPTION:For 55 years\, Tower of Power has delivered the best in funk and soul music. \n“We were a Soul band called The Motowns.” recalls Emilio Castillo. “Rocco was the bass player\, I was there\, and my brother was the drummer. I met “Doc” Kupka back in 1968\, and gave him an audition. He came in the band\, and we eventually changed our name to the Tower of Power.” The reason for the band name change was that they had a specific goal in mind. \nEast Bay Grease defined their sound and landed them with Warner Brothers. Bump City\, their 1972 debut for the label\, was a hit on both the Billboard 200 and the R&B Albums chart\, and netted them the hits “You’re Still A Young Man” and “Down to The Nightclub.” The 70s were a boom period with radio classics like “So Very Hard to Go” and “What Is Hip?\,” and the band continued to tour and record over the years. Castillo says their love of the stage is the same today as it was back in 1968. \n50 years later\, in 2018\, they returned to Oakland to celebrate their landmark 50th anniversary. Tower’s window-rattling grooves and raucous party spirit has been a balm for the soul throughout their half-century existence\, but the release of 50 Years of Funk & Soul: Live at the Fox Theater couldn’t have arrived at a better time. \nThe band has long since surpassed Castillo’s modest aspirations\, traveling the world\, enjoying hit singles on their own and backing legendary artists including Otis Redding\, Elton John\, Santana\, the Grateful Dead\, John Lee Hooker\, Aerosmith\, Bonnie Raitt\, and countless others. In the process they’ve defined an “Oakland soul” sound as instantly recognizable as those from Castillo’s hometown\, Detroit\, as well as inspirations like Memphis and Philadelphia. \nThe future of Tower of Power is set out to be vigorous and dynamic\, and will prove to be just that for fans around the world starved for the band’s groove just the way Tower of Power likes it!

SUMMARY:Peter Rowan with Sam Grisman Project
DESCRIPTION:Sam\, Peter\, & Band will be bringing the music of Jerry Garcia’s supergroup’s album Old & In The Way to the stage! \nThe music that Sam Grisman heard his father David Grisman and Jerry Garcia make in the early ’90s in the house Sam grew up in (the simply titled “Jerry Garcia & David Grisman\,” as just one example) is not only some of the most timeless acoustic music ever recorded\, it also triggers his oldest and fondest musical memories. Sam is inspired by how much camaraderie\, love\, and joy is simply oozing out of his father and his best friend\, but also how deeply they get underneath their favorite songs (originals\, covers\, and traditional/old-time tunes) and how expertly that material was curated. \nSam’s aim in starting Sam Grisman Project is to build a container where he and his friends can showcase their genuine love and appreciation for the legacy of Dawg and Jerry’s music\, the impact it has made on their own individual musical voices\, and also to showcase the original music that their squad has to offer the world. \nNow\, in a team-up with longtime family friend Peter Rowan\, Sam and the band will be bringing the music of legendary bluegrass outfit Old and in the Way to the stage for select performances in 2025 and beyond!

SUMMARY:Bonsai Workshop at Old Planters Brewery
DESCRIPTION:Beginner workshops are perfect for you to grab your friends\, grab a drink and come make tiny trees! We’re bringing the awesome art of bonsai out of the hedged in gardens and into the streets! Or at least into your favorite bars/breweries/pubs. Bonsai Bar is a night of fun you don’t want to miss. Learn the fundamental skills and techniques behind the art of bonsai while enjoying a night out with friends! Our teachers will introduce core concepts and guide your experience as you pot\, prune\, and design your very own bonsai tree! Our Guarantee: These tiny trees are so hardy we guarantee you can keep yours alive\, or we’ll replace it. \nThis workshop will be hosted at Old Planters Brewery. Our goal has always been to be firmly rooted in our community with everything we do. Whether it’s collaborating with other local businesses in our area (FRANK / Crave / Wandering Soul/ Fat Tuna Charters/ Half Baked) or giving back to the place that has given us so much (Beverly Hospital/HarborLight community partners) . \nThis idea of community rings true in our taproom as well. Our space has become a meeting place to hear local musicians\, enjoy local artists\, and get a taste of various foods in the Beverly area . It’s also a space where we would like ALL members of our community to feel welcome and accepted. For many\, craft breweries can sometimes feel exclusive and intimidating for those that don’t consider themselves “beer nerds” and this is a notion we will always work hard to dispel. We believe beer should be fun/accepting and our goal is to always have a variety of beers that speak to a wide audience. \nUnder 21 policy: Please contact Old Planters Brewery for details regarding underage entry \nFor more about Bonsai Bar and what to expect at our classes\, visit our website at: https://bonsaibar.com/products/old-planters-brewery

SUMMARY:The 250th Anniversary Battle of Bunker Hill Reenactment
DESCRIPTION:The 250th Anniversary Reenactment of The Battle of Bunker Hills aims to accurately portray the events and faithfully represent the people involved in the conflict of June 17\, 1775. Our mission is to celebrate and commemorate the actions and sacrifices of the men and women of all sides of the Battle of Bunker Hill through careful research\, public demonstrations\, civic engagement and educational outreach. Through these means\, we endeavor to increase understanding of the Battle of Bunker Hill\, and to bring to life the stories and voices of those long gone or purposefully excluded: when you see us\, think of them. \nThe first pitched battle of the American War for Independence was fought in stages. Our reenactment of the battle will do the same. The recreated battle will be broken up into a series of vignettes and lectures\, as well as the tactical demonstrations. Beginning each morning\, Colonial forces will race to build fortifications atop the hill as the Royal Navy bombards the American position to soften its defense in preparation for amphibious assault. British soldiers will then be ferried to the beachhead before charging the American lines – attacking the hill three times before taking it through bitter combat. \nBefore and after the tactical demonstrations\, interpreters portraying specific historical figures will give context to the events of June 1775\, detailing how the battle transformed their lives and our nation. Between each action\, visitors will have the opportunity to meet reenactors and learn about the perspectives of the people they portray.
