SUMMARY:A Night of Comedy featuring Steve Sweeney and Jody Sloane
DESCRIPTION:6/27/25\nReserved Seating $30\nGA Standing $15.00\n7:00pm Doors\, 8:00pm Show\n21+\, Positive I.D. Required \nSteve Sweeney Boston Comedy LEGEND featuring Jody Slaone \nCharlestown-born Steve Sweeney is known as the “undisputed King of Boston comedy“\, the embodiment of the city he calls home\, a local guy who has become a nationally recognizable talent. \nSweeney is known not only as a headlining comedian\, but also through his many memorable TV and movie appearances. During the early 1970s\, a small group of Boston ‘would-be’ comedians performed regularly at a comedy club started by Martin Olson and Barry Crimmins in a back room of the Chinese restaurant\, Ding-Ho\, near Inman Square in Cambridge\, MA. This group also included such unknowns as Lenny Clarke\, Kevin Meaney\, Jay Leno\, Bobcat Goldthwait\, Bill Sohonage\, and Steven Wright. Steve stood out from the crowd by incorporating his great insight into the New England political scene into his act. \nHe was the first of the Boston super-stars to break into television\, appearing on “Park Street Under\,” a Boston based sitcom that many believe was the inspiration for the highly successful television show “Cheers.” He’s also been on “Late Night with David Letterman\,” “Evening at The Improv” and “Comics Come Home.” You might remember his small but hilarious parts in films such as Rodney Dangerfield’s “Back to School\,” Judd Apatow’s “Celtic Pride\,” and “There’s Something About Mary” with Ben Stiller. \nHe was on the morning show on 100.7 FM WZLX\, first with “Mornings with Tai and Steve Sweeney”\, followed by “Steve Sweeney’s Neighborhood” after Tai left the station. In 2005 he opened Steve Sweeney’s Comedy Club in Boston’s Copley Square with longtime friend Dick Doherty. \nJody Sloane \nGrowing up\, Sloane had a knack for finding humor in the darkest corners of life. Whether it was the absurdity of a government cheese sculpture or the quirks of her mother’s self-medicating with Winstons and Ring Dings\, nothing was off-limits for her infectious laughter-inducing commentary. Her friends quickly learned that any situation could become a comedy goldmine with her around. \nFast forward to mid-life\, Sloane cut her entertainment teeth doing her sit-down schtick as a cheeky conductor on the Boston duck tours. Her duck tour experience was the perfect tee up to becoming a standup comedian. She’s now a regular at esteemed comedy venues from New York to Maine and has been featured in several comedy festivals\, including Laugh Your Asheville Off\, Boston Comedy Festival\, and The Women In Comedy Festival. \nIf you’re ready to embrace the perversely hilarious\, and you’re not afraid to explore the comical underbelly of life\, then Sloane is your guide. Get ready to indulge your inner imp and join Jody Sloane for a night of comedy that’s delightfully twisted and wickedly entertaining.

SUMMARY:Trumpeters of Sedition: How the Printing Press created a Revolution
DESCRIPTION:Gary Gregory\, proprietor of the Printing Office of Edes & Gill\, will talk about the role of the printing press in the American Revolution. Printed pamphlets\, broadsides\, and newspapers energized the revolution\, and it was the printing press that produced the Declaration of Independence. Gary will use his replica of an English Common Press\, a wooden hand-press that now resides at the Museum of Printing\, to demonstrate the technology in use at the time of the American Revolution. \nThis event is funded in part by the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism (MOTT) through the Massachusetts 250 Grant Program. This program supports the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution through programs that highlight historic themes of revolution and independence\, celebrate significant ‘firsts’ in Massachusetts and commemorate the state’s past 250 years.

SUMMARY:Walking Tour: Historic Dogtown A Walk Back in Time
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, June 29\, 2025\n10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.\nBabson Boulder Parking\nCherry Street\, Gloucester\, MA 01930\n$10 for CAM Members\, $20 for non-members\nRegistration Required \nOn Cape Ann\, the name “Dogtown” conjures up many things — vast woodlands and trails; stone walls and cellar holes; tales of witches and widows; an ill-fated bullfighter; pastures\, picnics and blueberries; a sea of rocks. Dogtown is all of these things and more. But first\, it is a place where proud people once lived and worked\, at the center of Gloucester\, for nearly 150 years – until it became “Dogtown” and died out. \nThis tour will take you down the main roads of this early settlement\, to meet some of the people\, see where they lived and hear their stories. You will learn how Dogtown got its name\, why people left\, and how it has changed in the 200 years since the last house came down. You will hear about writers and artists who were inspired here\, and reservoirs that were built here. Finally\, you will see some of the inspirational word-boulders along the trails that are the lasting legacy of entrepreneur and philanthropist Roger Babson (1875-1967)\, and a symbol of the enduring nature of this special place called Dogtown. \nThis walking tour is three miles and will take approximately two hours. The route is over hiking trails that are generally easy\, but uneven\, with rocks and roots underfoot. Hiking attire and footwear advised; also\, walking poles if you use them. Bring water and insect repellent. The tour will start at the main entrance to Dogtown\, off Cherry Street. Meet at the parking lot a short distance up Dogtown Road\, on the right. There is parking for a few cars in the lot; otherwise\, park along the right side of the road\, after the parking lot\, or along Cherry St. Please arrive 10 minutes early. The tour will depart on time. \nPhoto Credit: Marsden Hartley (1877-1943). Summer Outward Bound\, Gloucester\, 1931\, oil on board. Collection of Cape Ann Museum. Gift of the estate of Robert L. DESCRIPTION:Climb aboard the Schooner Adventure and step back in time! Our guided deck tours offer a unique opportunity to explore one of Gloucester’s most treasured maritime landmarks. Originally launched in 1926 as a working fishing schooner\, Adventure has been lovingly restored and is now a floating museum dedicated to preserving the rich legacy of New England’s fishing heritage. \nOn your tour\, you’ll walk the very decks where dorymen once hauled in their catch\, learn about life at sea in the 1920s\, and hear the incredible story of how this National Historic Landmark was saved from decay. Knowledgeable and passionate docents—many of whom have sailed Adventure themselves—will bring her stories to life\, from the golden age of sail to her current role as an ambassador for maritime history and education. \nWhether you’re a maritime buff\, a curious traveler\, or a family looking for a fun and educational outing\, a deck tour of the Schooner Adventure is a hands-on experience you won’t forget. Come feel the salt air\, ring the ship’s bell\, take a picture at the helm\, and discover how this proud vessel continues to inspire new generations. \nTours start at the end of the Harriet Webster Pier.
