SUMMARY:Navigating Art & Science | Exhibit at The Cultural Center at Rocky Neck
DESCRIPTION:Navigating Art & Science\nCurated by Cynthia Roth\, Marge Rack\, and Ronda Faloon\nAugust 28 – October 13\nOpening Reception: Sunday\, September 14\, 4-6pm\nGallery Hours: Thursday-Sunday\, 12-5pm\nExhibiting Artists: Resa Blatman\, Daisy Braun\, Georgie Friedman\, Perri Lynch Howard\, Michelle Lougee\, Michelle Samour\, Jessica Straus\, and Christopher Volpe \nNavigating Art & Science featuring eight artists who are deeply involved in scientific inquiry and activism. The seven-week exhibit shows how art can transform the impact and implications of science into something concrete\, visible and personal. \nRelated Events\nThe public is invited to celebrate Navigating Art & Science at the Opening Reception on Sunday September 14\, 4–6pm. \nMark your calendars for exhibition-related programming at the Cultural Center:\nSeptember 7\, 7pm: A sneak preview of Ken Riaf’s new play\, Copy and Acknowledge read by Lanes Coven actors \nSunday\, September 28 at 4:00pm: Ocean of Uncertainty: an artists’ panel discussion on moderated by artist and writer\, Chris Volpe

SUMMARY:Sinister Streets: Witch Trials\, Murders & Literary Legends
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a behind-the-scenes tour featuring architectural treasures from PEM’s collection! The only walking tours in Salem that offer entry into historic buildings\, PEM’s tours cover five centuries of happenings and characters from Witch City\, including the infamous trials of 1692. \nSinister Streets: Witch Trials\, Murders and Literary Legends starts by painting the picture of life in 1692 by examining the Gardner-Pingree House. The killing of Joseph White gripped Salem and the country in 1830 with its brawling brothers\, custom-built murder weapons\, conspiring family members and a body that was autopsied three times. Follow PEM’s expert guides into the room where it happened – if you dare! \nThis is an indoor/outdoor tour. Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. We’ll see you rain or shine! \nThis tour involves walking around 0.5 miles\, standing on hard surfaces and the use of stairs. Historic structures are not ADA accessible. Strollers may be used on the tours\, but may not be brought into any of the historic structures. Historic houses may include areas of low lighting and uneven surfaces. Assisted listening devices are available\, and tour guides will use microphones. \nYou can also follow our expert guides on Brick by Brick: Salem’s Hidden Architectural Stories for an in-depth look at architecture across downtown Salem\, from a millionaire’s mansion to a working-class sailor’s house.

SUMMARY:Harold López-Nussa
DESCRIPTION:Celebrated Cuban pianist Harold López-Nussa makes his Blue Note debut with Timba a la Americana\, a vibrant fusion of Afro-Cuban rhythms and contemporary jazz. Inspired by his recent move from Havana to France\, the music reflects both longing and discovery. Joined by a powerhouse band and produced by Snarky Puppy’s Michael League\, López-Nussa explores new sonic territory while staying rooted in Cuban tradition.\nOn NUEVA TIMBA\, the new Blue Note album from the Cuban-born pianist Harold López-Nussa\, the jazz vanguard meets multiple eras of Cuba’s musical history with results that are at once accessible\, life-affirming and strikingly accomplished. Featuring a core of unmatched talent — Harold’s brother\, Ruy Adrian López-Nussa\, on drums; Luques Curtis on bass; and the harmonica virtuoso Grégoire Maret — it feels like a definitive vision for the future of Latin jazz. \nOn “Bonito y Sabroso\,” López-Nussa condenses the power of Benny Moré’s big band into a small-group arrangement\, then adds modern\, psychedelic hues through electronics and the beat-making of José Angel Blanco\, a.k.a. El Negro WADPRO. Other highlights include “Niña Con Violin\,” written by López-Nussa’s uncle\, the acclaimed pianist Ernán López-Nussa\, with gorgeous melodic bass work from Curtis. An arrangement of Ernesto Lecuona’s “Gitanerias” offers a master class in accenting classical virtuosity with a contemporary rhythmic thrust. The López-Nussa original “Cerca y Lejos” boasts welcome shades of early fusion-era Chick Corea. \nFor all its overwhelming mastery\, however\, this album is foremost a journey — a deeply personal narrative rooted in profound\, often painful life changes. \nNUEVA TIMBA tells the very real story of a man displaced: a young father finding his way in a new country while missing his homeland with heartrending intensity; all the while\, he’s nursing other emotional wounds including the passing of his mother\, and the compounding torment brings him to a state of despair. Slowly but surely\, sunshine begins to poke through the clouds\, and he discovers a path forward. Something like happiness returns to the horizon. Consider NUEVA TIMBA musical tears of joy.

With a blockbuster setlist that includes everything from “Stairway to Heaven” to “Kashmir\,” Lez Zeppelin recreates the magic\, delivering the same fiery guitar riffs\, powerful vocals and soaring solos.
