SUMMARY:Flyway of Life Film Screening and Talk
DESCRIPTION:Experience a memorable evening of film\, nature and storytelling with a special screening of Flyway of Life (2025). \nThis visually stunning documentary follows one of the world’s great natural phenomena — bird migration along the Atlantic Flyway — revealing the delicate connections between wildlife\, landscapes and the forces that shape them. From tropical wetlands to northern wilderness\, Flyway of Life is both a cinematic journey and a powerful reminder of what is at stake in a rapidly changing world. \nFollowing the screening\, join producer and filmmaker Tomas Koeck for an exclusive behind-the-scenes conversation. Koeck will share the extraordinary stories behind the film’s creation\, including remote expeditions\, rare wildlife encounters and the challenges of documenting migration across continents. This intimate talk offers the audience a rare look into the craft of conservation filmmaking and the human stories that unfold behind the camera. \nThe film is 1 hour and 11 minutes long. \nThis event is co-hosted by the Essex County Ornithological Club and made possible by a gift from Tim and Joanie Ingraham in memory of PEM Trustee Emeritus Dorothy (Dotty) Addams Brown. \nAbout our collaborator \nTomas Koeck\nTomas Koeck is an award-winning filmmaker\, Canon USA-backed photographer\, speaker\, presenter and expeditionist. In simpler terms\, he’s a storyteller\, an environmentalist and\, most importantly\, an optimist. He has been on assignment for National Geographic\, Smithsonian Channel\, PBS Nature and other outlets covering stories throughout North America and seeks to give a voice to wildlife through journalism\, storytelling and advocacy.

SUMMARY:Newburyport's Road to Independence IV: American Rebels: Hancock\, Quincy\, Adams
DESCRIPTION:American Rebels: The Hancock\, Adams\, and Quincy Families Fanned the Flames of Revolution…in Newburyport and Beyond.\nNewburyport’s Offin Boardman carried secret letters for John Adams\, who argued court cases in Newburyport. The USS Hancock was built in Newburyport in 1776\, and all three families were linked by ties of blood and friendship to this community. Join Nina Sankovitch\, author of American Rebels: How the Hancock\, Adams\, and Quincy Families Fanned the Flames of Revolution to explore the the efforts of these leading New England families to foment support for the American Revolution in the decade leading up to the 1776 signing of the Declaration of Independence. \nThe fight for independence never would have succeeded if New Englanders\, across class lines and from all backgrounds\, had not joined the fight. John Hancock\, John Adams\, Abigail Adams\, and Josiah Quincy were instrumental in bringing together disparate groups and igniting a shared ambition for liberty from English oppression. Using words (in speeches and letters) and actions (court cases\, acts of civil disobedience\, espionage\, community outreach)\, they rallied colonists to betray their King and Parliament as a necessary and God-ordained duty to themselves\, their neighbors\, and their country. With the signing of the Declaration of Independence\, the shared fight became a covenant\, and the rights of life\, liberty\, and pursuit of happiness\, the promise of independence. On the 250th anniversary of our nation\, we celebrate that covenant\, that promise\, and the men and women who made it all possible.\nFunded in part by the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism.

SUMMARY:The American Revolution: A story of the War in 28 Paintings
DESCRIPTION:1776 was more than a turning point; it marked the birth of a new world order. A bold line was drawn as ordinary people made extraordinary decisions\, declaring independence from the most powerful empire on earth. The exhibit will be on display at the Cabot House from September 6\, 2025 to July 4\, 2026. Tickets are free and open to the public
