SUMMARY:Trumpeters of Sedition: How the Printing Press created a Revolution
DESCRIPTION:Gary Gregory\, proprietor of the Printing Office of Edes & Gill\, will talk about the role of the printing press in the American Revolution. Printed pamphlets\, broadsides\, and newspapers energized the revolution\, and it was the printing press that produced the Declaration of Independence. Gary will use his replica of an English Common Press\, a wooden hand-press that now resides at the Museum of Printing\, to demonstrate the technology in use at the time of the American Revolution. \nThis event is funded in part by the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism (MOTT) through the Massachusetts 250 Grant Program. This program supports the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution through programs that highlight historic themes of revolution and independence\, celebrate significant ‘firsts’ in Massachusetts and commemorate the state’s past 250 years.

SUMMARY:Walking Tour: Ed & Jo Hoppers’ Houses
DESCRIPTION:Cape Ann Museum Courtyard\, Downtown Campus\n27 Pleasant St\, Gloucester\, MA\, 01930\n$10 for CAM Members\, $20 for non-members\nRegistration Required \nExplore the specific sites in the area of Gloucester known as Portuguese Hill depicted by renowned American realist painter Edward Hopper (1882-1967). Hopper is known to have painted in Gloucester on five separate occasions in the first decades of the 20th century. His paintings from this period capture the local landscape and architecture in a loosely rendered\, light-filled style and are considered by many to be some of his finest works. Also included are watercolors painted by Josephine Nivison Hopper (1883-1968)\, Hopper’s wife and artist in her own right\, whose work gained recognition long before her future husband’s success. Learn how this hillside neighborhood that the Hoppers travelled together inspired their artwork\, as well as the role the area plays in Gloucester history. \nIf you have enjoyed one of our Hopper’s Houses Downtown tours\, the Portuguese Hill tour takes you to another side of the city to see different views. It’s well worth the experience! \nStroll with a CAM Docent for about 1 1/2 hours towards Portuguese Hill and back to downtown Gloucester. This walking tour includes steep stairs and a length of the hill. \nWhere to Meet?\nThough the Downtown Campus is currently closed for renovations until the spring of 2026\, the tour will gather at the courtyard attached to the Museum on 27 Pleasant Street. Tours are light rain or shine. \nPhoto Credit: CAM docent leading walking tour rain or shine\, CAM staff photo.

SUMMARY:A Night of Comedy featuring Steve Sweeney and Jody Sloane
DESCRIPTION:6/27/25\nReserved Seating $30\nGA Standing $15.00\n7:00pm Doors\, 8:00pm Show\n21+\, Positive I.D. Required \nSteve Sweeney Boston Comedy LEGEND featuring Jody Slaone \nCharlestown-born Steve Sweeney is known as the “undisputed King of Boston comedy“\, the embodiment of the city he calls home\, a local guy who has become a nationally recognizable talent. \nSweeney is known not only as a headlining comedian\, but also through his many memorable TV and movie appearances. During the early 1970s\, a small group of Boston ‘would-be’ comedians performed regularly at a comedy club started by Martin Olson and Barry Crimmins in a back room of the Chinese restaurant\, Ding-Ho\, near Inman Square in Cambridge\, MA. This group also included such unknowns as Lenny Clarke\, Kevin Meaney\, Jay Leno\, Bobcat Goldthwait\, Bill Sohonage\, and Steven Wright. Steve stood out from the crowd by incorporating his great insight into the New England political scene into his act. \nHe was the first of the Boston super-stars to break into television\, appearing on “Park Street Under\,” a Boston based sitcom that many believe was the inspiration for the highly successful television show “Cheers.” He’s also been on “Late Night with David Letterman\,” “Evening at The Improv” and “Comics Come Home.” You might remember his small but hilarious parts in films such as Rodney Dangerfield’s “Back to School\,” Judd Apatow’s “Celtic Pride\,” and “There’s Something About Mary” with Ben Stiller. \nHe was on the morning show on 100.7 FM WZLX\, first with “Mornings with Tai and Steve Sweeney”\, followed by “Steve Sweeney’s Neighborhood” after Tai left the station. In 2005 he opened Steve Sweeney’s Comedy Club in Boston’s Copley Square with longtime friend Dick Doherty. \nJody Sloane \nGrowing up\, Sloane had a knack for finding humor in the darkest corners of life. Whether it was the absurdity of a government cheese sculpture or the quirks of her mother’s self-medicating with Winstons and Ring Dings\, nothing was off-limits for her infectious laughter-inducing commentary. Her friends quickly learned that any situation could become a comedy goldmine with her around. \nFast forward to mid-life\, Sloane cut her entertainment teeth doing her sit-down schtick as a cheeky conductor on the Boston duck tours. Her duck tour experience was the perfect tee up to becoming a standup comedian. She’s now a regular at esteemed comedy venues from New York to Maine and has been featured in several comedy festivals\, including Laugh Your Asheville Off\, Boston Comedy Festival\, and The Women In Comedy Festival. \nIf you’re ready to embrace the perversely hilarious\, and you’re not afraid to explore the comical underbelly of life\, then Sloane is your guide. Get ready to indulge your inner imp and join Jody Sloane for a night of comedy that’s delightfully twisted and wickedly entertaining.

Required \nAfter a five-year hiatus\, Closet Case returns to Gloucester with a new cast of characters as well as some familiar faces. Kicking off St. Peter’s Fiesta Week\, Closet Case is ready to re-VAMP the party. \nThis next chapter fuses classic drag\, burlesque\, and boundary-pushing performance art\, celebrating local talent unafraid to bare their souls—and more-enticing the crowd with something tantalizing and tangible. We’re turning up the heat and offering a reminder: sometimes the most radical act is to revel in pleasure\, self-expression\, and a little sexual summer healing. Don’t we all deserve it? \nWe waited long enough for it….LET’S VAMP IT UP.
