SUMMARY:Toronzo Cannon
DESCRIPTION:Reserved Seating $34.50 + $6.95 service fee\nG.A. Standing $19.50 + $6.95 service fee\n6:00pm Doors / 7:00pm Show\n18+ / Positive I.D. Required \n“I want my songs to be heard and experienced\, not just listened to\,” says cliché-defying\, internationally beloved Chicago bluesman Toronzo Cannon. With his richly detailed\, truth-telling original songs\, blistering\, inventive guitar work and impassioned vocals\, Cannon is on the cutting edge of today’s contemporary blues scene\, and is known as one of the genre’s most creative artists. His sound is inspired by his heroes\, including Hound Dog Taylor\, Muddy Waters\, Elmore James\, Albert King\, Son Seals and Jimi Hendrix. On his third Alligator Records album\, Shut Up And Play!\, Cannon blazes his own path with 11 emotionally-charged originals. From serious to humorous\, his imaginative songs are fueled by his powerful\, cathartic guitar solos and his soulfully authoritative voice. \n“I write what I know\, what I feel\,” Cannon says\, “I like to put myself in the shoes of the subjects of my songs. This record is about the things going on in my life since 2019—it’s a document of what I’ve seen and been through\, but the stories are universal. And it’s my way to get past negative things and keep my own sanity. Listen to the lyrics. I am a Black man in America. These are NOT protest songs. I try to create honest\, common sense understanding with my songs.”

SUMMARY:Danielle Miraglia
DESCRIPTION:Danielle Miraglia comes armed with a strong steady thumb on an old Gibson and an infectious stomp-box rhythm with tunes ranging from heart-felt to socially conscious that will move both your heart and hips. Her latest “Bright Shining Stars” debuted at #15 on the Billboard Blues Charts. \nCascade Blues Association calls it “… tough as rawhide\, but smooth as blended whiskey.” Released Oct 2020 with Vizztone Label Group\, it’s a solo acoustic folk/blues record that highlights the one-woman-band live sound she’s honed over the years\, featuring guest appearances by talented friends Laurence Scudder\, Peter Parcek and Richard “”Rosy”” Rosenblatt. It includes originals as well as a collection of songs she covers at live shows\, paying homage to influences like Big Bill Broonzy\, Bob Dylan\, Janis Joplin and more\, plus the title track “Bright Shining Stars\,” written by her husband\, Tom Bianchi. \n“Americana and blues practitioner Danielle Miraglia wisely avoids fuss and clutter on her latest album\, Bright Shining Stars. Fingerpicking and strumming on acoustic guitar are central to her sound\, with percussion frequently provided by the infectious stomp of her foot. Three of the 11 tracks here are solo recordings\, reinforcing a truism that the artist frequently has proven on Boston-area stages: A charming voice and fluid guitar prowess are all an artist needs to keep a listener rapt.” – Bobby Reed\, Downbeat Magazine \n“Straddling the line where folk/roots meets rock/blues\, Miraglia has a voice that can go from a raspy come-hither purr to an Etta James-esque powerhouse belt\, although she may be best known for her lead thumb — a heavy\, thumping strike on her Gibson that’s backdrop percussion in itself.” – Lauren Daley\, The Boston Globe

SUMMARY:Hammers on Stone: The Granite Industry on Cape Ann
DESCRIPTION:For over a century\, the granite industry played a vital role in Cape Ann’s economy\, providing work for men from across New England and around the world\, generating profits for those fortunate enough to share in ownership of the region’s many quarries\, and contributing to the unique and authentic sense of place that characterizes Cape Ann today. On a broader scale\, the industry contributed significantly to building and transportation projects across our nation during a sustained period of growth and expansion. \nDrawing on the Cape Ann Museum’s extensive holdings of objects and archival materials related to the industry\, most of which were gifted to the Cape Ann Museum by historian Barbara Erkkila (1918-2013)\, Hammers on Stone will explore the history of the granite trade and its impact on the community. The exhibition will examine methods of harvesting\, cutting\, and finishing stone\, as well as how granite was transported from quarry to wharf and further afield. The exhibit will also explore the lives of those involved in quarrying and consider how the industry helped shape Cape Ann’s artistic landscape\, inspiring generations of artists to the present day. \nImage: Samuel Lewis Pullman (1900-1961)\, Quarryman Joe Boston\, 1930\, oil on canvas. The Abenaki Peoples have an ancient history and rich cultural heritage\, including a vast legacy of stories. Traditional Abenaki stories were\, and are\, meant for audiences of all ages – the entire community. The stories tell of the world’s creation\, the creation of the aki (the land)\, the nebi (the water)\, the first awaasak (animal people)\, the first alnobak (human beings)\, and teach us how to live in balance with one another. The stories are filled with action\, drama\, wonder\, and even moments of humor. \nIn this program\, Anne Jennison\, a traditional Northeast Woodlands Native American storyteller\, begins and ends her performance with a traditional song accompanied by her frame drum and – in between – shares some of these Abenaki stories in a way that is interactive as well as entertaining. Anne will also explain how the stories have been\, and continue to be\, passed down from one generation to the next as well as the role of storytelling and the storyteller within the context of Abenaki culture. \nAbout our Guest Performer: Anne Jennison is a traditional Native American storyteller. Anne’s storytelling skills have been polished by more than 30 years of experience sharing Indigenous lesson stories with audiences of all kinds. With Master Degrees in both Storytelling and History\, Anne also brings a wealth of cultural and historical knowledge to enrich her retelling of timeless Abenaki & Wabanaki stories. Anne is listed on the New Hampshire Traditional Artists Roster as a traditional Abenaki storyteller & craftsperson and on the New England Foundation for the Arts roster as a Teaching Artist and a Touring Artist. \nAnne is also the current Chair for the NH Commission on Native American Affairs and a member of the Indigenous NH Collaborative Collective (http://www.indigenousnh.com). DESCRIPTION:Beginner workshops are perfect for you to grab your friends\, grab a drink and come make tiny trees! We’re bringing the awesome art of bonsai out of the hedged in gardens and into the streets! Or at least into your favorite bars/breweries/pubs. Bonsai Bar is a night of fun you don’t want to miss. Learn the fundamental skills and techniques behind the art of bonsai while enjoying a night out with friends! Our teachers will introduce core concepts and guide your experience as you pot\, prune\, and design your very own bonsai tree! Our Guarantee: These tiny trees are so hardy we guarantee you can keep yours alive\, or we’ll replace it. \nThis workshop will be hosted at Old Planters Brewery. Our goal has always been to be firmly rooted in our community with everything we do. Whether it’s collaborating with other local businesses in our area (FRANK / Crave / Wandering Soul/ Fat Tuna Charters/ Half Baked) or giving back to the place that has given us so much (Beverly Hospital/HarborLight community partners) . \nThis idea of community rings true in our taproom as well. Our space has become a meeting place to hear local musicians\, enjoy local artists\, and get a taste of various foods in the Beverly area . It’s also a space where we would like ALL members of our community to feel welcome and accepted. For many\, craft breweries can sometimes feel exclusive and intimidating for those that don’t consider themselves “beer nerds” and this is a notion we will always work hard to dispel. We believe beer should be fun/accepting and our goal is to always have a variety of beers that speak to a wide audience. \nUnder 21 policy: Please contact Old Planters Brewery for details regarding underage entry \nFor more about Bonsai Bar and what to expect at our classes\, visit our website at: https://bonsaibar.com/products/old-planters-brewery
