DESCRIPTION:It’s Base Ball\, 1864 style at Spencer Peirce Little Farm! These fun\, historically accurate games feature underhand pitching without gloves. A ball bounced once and caught is an out! Snacks\, baseballs\, and cards are available for purchase. Come and see for yourself how “America’s favorite pastime” was played in the 1860s. The teams competing are based on actual nineteenth-century baseball clubs from New England. \nThe Essex Base Ball Organization is a nonprofit “vintage base ball” group that plays the game as it was played in the 1860s. They are based out of Newbury\, Massachusetts\, and have four teams. They teach the history of baseball through games and demonstrations\, offering youth clinics and lectures on baseball history at historical societies\, libraries\, and other civic organizations. \nSee HNE website for first pitch times; triple headers start at 11 AM\, doubles at noon.

DESCRIPTION:Join us every Wednesday morning in July & August for Bubbles and Books on our seaside lawn! \nBubbles and Books is so much more than just storytime. It’s a seaside bubble party featuring stories\, music\, crafts\, a light snack & even an outdoor scavenger hunt. \nDoors open at 10:00 am\, with bubbles and a craft\, then the story & snacks begin about 10:20 am. We recommend you bring a cozy blanket for your little one to cuddle on while we enjoy the storybooks on the lawn. After storytime\, enjoy more bubbles and end the morning with a kid-friendly scavenger hunt in front of the Museum. \nDon’t forget sunscreen\, and we encourage little ones to come dressed in their favorite crown\, cape\, or whatever makes them feel magical! \nTickets for this event are $10 for ages 8 to adults\, and kids ages 7 and under are only $5. Hammond Castle Museum Member savings apply. \nWe recommend that you arrive 15 minutes early to allow enough time for the walk from the parking lot down to the Museum\, then for the check-in process and the walk to the lawn. There are many stairs throughout the campus and inside the Museum. Strollers are not allowed in the Museum or on the Museum Grounds\, and oversized baby carriers are not permitted in the Museum due to the many narrow passageways. \nThis ticket grants you access to the Bubbles & Books program\, which will be held on the ocean-facing lawn. Inspired by California’s Joshua trees\, sequoias\, and redwoods devastated by wildfires\, the project was hailed by the Los Angeles Times as “a sublime\, classical ode to California’s redwoods\, sequoias and Joshua trees.” \nCommunity engagement is central to Delirium Musicum’s mission. During the pandemic\, Gara and violinist YuEun Kim launched MusiKaravan\, traveling the West Coast in a 1971 VW bus to perform socially distanced concerts for diverse communities. The project evolved into an award-winning streaming series and continues today. The ensemble also presents Baby Concerts\, developed with USC’s Brain and Creativity Institute\, offering interactive musical experiences for infants\, toddlers\, and caregivers. \nDelirium Musicum has received numerous honors\, including a Global Music Awards Silver Medal\, and in 2025 swept all five categories in the San Francisco Classical Voice Audience Choice Awards\, affirming its place as one of today’s most exciting and innovative ensembles.

The ensemble’s close musical rapport and willingness to take risks have earned major recognition\, including an Avery Fisher Career Grant and Chamber Music America’s Cleveland Quartet Award in 2024. Performing more than seventy concerts per season\, the Quartet has made notable debuts at Carnegie Hall and Wigmore Hall\, and has premiered new works by Karim Al-Zand\, Paul Novak\, and Nicky Sohn\, supported by grants from Chamber Music America and the Barlow Foundation. \nFounded in 2018\, the Balourdet Quartet’s roots trace to the Taos School of Music\, where founding members bonded over chamber music\, shared meals\, and friendship—later joined by violist Benjamin Zannoni at Rice University. The ensemble has since earned top prizes at the Concert Artists Guild Competition\, Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition\, Banff International String Quartet Competition\, Premio Paolo Borciani Competition\, and Yellow Springs Competition\, and trained at the New England Conservatory Professional String Quartet Program under Paul Katz. \nTERRA QUARTET\nHarriet Langley\, violin | Amelia Dietrich\, violin | Chih-Ta Chen\, viola | Audrey Chen\, cello \nWinners of the 2025 Naumburg Chamber Music Competition and recent prizewinners at the Bordeaux and Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competitions\, the Terra String Quartet (TSQ) is a vibrant international ensemble based in New York City. Outside the concert hall\, the members enjoy playing Mahjong together and deepening their shared curiosity about instruments and bows. \nBARRY SHIFFMAN\, violin/viola\nViolinist and violist Barry Shiffman has enjoyed a distinguished career as a performer\, recording artist\, teacher\, and arts leader. He made his debut with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra at age 15 and in 1989 co-founded the St. Lawrence String Quartet. During his 17 years with the ensemble\, he performed more than 2\,000 concerts worldwide\, including appearances at Rockport Music\, and recorded several critically acclaimed albums for EMI Classics. \nA highly respected teacher and chamber music coach\, Shiffman has served as artist-in-residence at Stanford University and as visiting artist at the University of Toronto\, and has been involved in the premieres of hundreds of new works. He was recently named Dean of The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto\, following many years of leadership there and at the Banff Centre. Shiffman is the recipient of the Nadia Boulanger Prize for Excellence in Teaching and an honorary doctorate from the University of Calgary.

DESCRIPTION:As the keyboardist for the legendary Boston band and Rock & Roll Hall of Famers\, The Cars\, Greg Hawkes forged the sound of rock’s New Wave. Pioneering and pushing the limits of technology and sequencing in the late ’70s and through the ’80s\, Greg cemented the synthesizer’s place in rock and pop music\, and his contribution has influenced countless artists since. Along with achieving Rock & Roll Hall of Fame status and massive commercial success with The Cars\, Greg has been a sought-after session and touring musician\, and has worked with the likes of Paul McCartney\, Todd Rundgren\, and The Turtles. \nThe Cars were named Best New Artist in the 1978 Rolling Stone Readers’ Poll. The band’s debut album\, The Cars\, sold six million copies and appeared on the Billboard 200 album chart for 139 weeks. The Cars had four Top 10 hits: “Shake It Up” (1981)\, “You Might Think\,” (1984)\, “Drive” (1984)\, and “Tonight She Comes” (1985). The band won Video of the Year for “You Might Think” at the first MTV Video Music Awards in 1984 \nIn 2016\, Greg collaborated with the acclaimed Boston band Eddie Japan to produce their 2017 album Golden Age. This eventually led to Greg and the band joining forces to create a night of music by The Cars featuring a set list curated by Greg. Since 2019\, Greg Hawkes with Eddie Japan Performing the Music of The Cars has been thrilling audiences across the Northeast with an energetic show that includes hits and deeper cuts from The Cars songbook\, along with special selections relating to Greg’s amazing musical career.
