DESCRIPTION:This concert showcases cellist Mira Kardan in a one-hour program featuring works by Beethoven\, Schumann\, Dvořák\, and Rossini\, highlighting the cello’s lyrical voice across four distinctive musical worlds. \nPROGRAM\nBEETHOVEN: Cello Sonata No. 3\nSCHUMANN: Adagio & Allegro\, Op. 70\nDVORAK: Silent Woods\nROSSINI: Barber of Seville (arr. by Tedesco) \nMira Kardan\, cello\nCellist Mira Kardan is an emerging artist recognized for her expressive musicianship and accomplishments as a soloist and chamber musician. She attends the Glenn Gould School as a recipient of the Renette and David Berman Scholarships\, studying with Hans Jørgen Jensen and Andrés Díaz. Previously\, she was a member of the Colburn Music Academy\, where she studied with Clive Greensmith and served as principal cellist of the Colburn Academy Virtuosi chamber orchestra. \nAn avid chamber musician\, Mira performed as a member of the Olive Piano Trio\, which won the Gold Medal at the 2022 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and First Grand Prize at the 2022 Chicago International Music Competition. In 2023\, the trio participated in an international exchange with the Sibelius Academy in Finland. Her current string trio won first prize in the 2025 Glenn Gould School Chamber Competition\, and she is an Artist-in-Residence at Off Centre Music Salon in Toronto. \nAs a soloist\, Mira won first prize in the 2025 Shean Strings Competition and will appear with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. Additional honors include prizes at the International Young Artist Concerto Competition\, Bellflower Symphony Competition\, and Sound Espressivo Competition. She has been featured twice on NPR’s From the Top. \nMira has participated in master classes with Gautier Capuçon\, Steven Isserlis\, the Calidore Quartet\, and the Takács Quartet\, and has attended the Heifetz Institute\, Meadowmount\, and Yellowbarn. She performs on a Grubaugh & Seifert Montagnana-model cello (2019). \nMicah Yui\, piano\nCanadian pianist Micah Yui enjoys an international career as a soloist\, chamber musician\, and recitalist\, with appearances on three continents. She has performed for dignitaries of Japan and Canada and is the recipient of three Canada Council Grants\, the Edmonton Civic Award\, and the Alberta Achievement Award. A prizewinner in numerous competitions\, her acclaimed recording of Bloch’s Concerto Symphonique with the London Symphony Orchestra was named Record of the Year by Stereophile magazine. \nMs. Yui has presented recitals in major cities including Zurich\, Tokyo\, New York\, and Copenhagen\, and has collaborated with distinguished artists such as Matt Haimovitz\, Daniel Heifetz\, James Buswell\, Paul Coletti\, and the St. Lawrence String Quartet. She has also appeared frequently in piano trio performances with Haimovitz and violinist Andy Simionescu\, including presentations of Beethoven’s Triple Concerto. \nMs. Yui earned her Bachelor of Music degree at The Juilliard School\, studying with Bella Davidovich\, and completed advanced studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto\, the University of Toronto\, and the Peabody Conservatory\, where she studied with Leon Fleisher. Her early training included work with Boris and Inna Zarankin\, Marietta Orlov\, Giovanni Valentini\, and Menahem Pressler. \nA dedicated educator\, Ms. Yui has served on the faculties of the Royal Conservatory of Music\, Peabody Preparatory\, the Heifetz Institute\, and the Music Institute of Chicago. She currently teaches at the Colburn School’s Community School of Performing Arts and Music Academy.

Crosby Forbes Curator of Asian Export Art\nKarina Corrigan’s interests center on the material culture of global connections. She supports PEM’s Chief Curator in leading the curatorial program and supervises a cohort of curators to advance PEM’s exhibitions and collection initiatives. In her curatorial practice she oversees the largest\, most comprehensive public collection of art made in China\, Japan and South Asia for export to other cultures. Corrigan lectures and publishes on many aspects of Asian Export art and has organized numerous exhibitions at PEM\, including Power and Perspective: Early Photography in China and Japanomania! Japanese Art Goes Global. She served as the coordinating curator at PEM for Saints\, Sinners\, Lovers and Fools: 300 Years of Flemish Masterworks. Corrigan received a BA in Art History and Medieval Renaissance Studies from Wellesley College\, an MS in Historic Preservation from the University of Pennsylvania and an MA from the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture. The Washington Post has called her “an artist of strikingly original ideas and irrefutable integrity\,” while The New York Times has described her as “a unique voice in the forest of Bach interpretation.” She first came to wide public attention in 2007 with her recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations\, an interpretation praised for being both rigorously faithful to the score and profoundly individual. \nSince then\, Dinnerstein has enjoyed an international performing career\, appearing with orchestras including the New York Philharmonic\, Montreal Symphony Orchestra\, London Symphony Orchestra\, and Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale Rai. She has performed in major venues worldwide\, among them Carnegie Hall\, the Kennedy Center\, the Berlin Philharmonie\, the Vienna Konzerthaus\, the Seoul Arts Center\, and the Sydney Opera House. \nDinnerstein has released fifteen albums\, all of which have topped the Billboard classical charts. Her recordings span a wide range of repertoire\, from Couperin to Philip Glass. Notable recent projects include a trilogy of pandemic-era recordings made in her Brooklyn home\, and Complicité (2025)\, her first all-Bach album in over a decade\, featuring mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano\, oboist Peggy Pearson\, and Baroklyn\, the string ensemble she founded and directs. \nEqually known for her creative projects and collaborations\, Dinnerstein has premiered works by Philip Glass\, Richard Danielpour\, André Previn\, Philip Lasser\, and others\, and has conceived and directed multimedia productions combining music and visual art. DESCRIPTION:Newburyport Art (NAA) is dedicating their first-of-the-summer Art Market Pop-up\, to The Pink House\, a beloved\, historical\, cultural icon that was demolished last year. As it endures being an artistic influence & inspiration\, the gallery at 65 Water Street will celebrate Pink House Day\, this Sunday\, June 14th\, 11am-5pm\, with those devoted to “creating memories through art”. Nine artists will sell their own original Pink House artwork in the Sculpture Garden\, including Alison Odle\, Gerry Kent\, Heather Corbett Ortiz\, Janet Bornemann\, Kallyn Lavallee\, Kathy Culbert\, Laureen Maher\, Liza Lynehan\, and Peter Neverette. \nThe Pink House Celebration Day was declared last year by Governor Maura Healey during the 100th Birthday Celebration of The Pink House\, the region gathering together as a community with dozens of locations featuring Pink House Art and themed specials. This year Newburyport Art invites all to experience the memorable beauty and shared stories of The Pink House. This event is organized by Kelly Page\, NAA staff\, and board member of the former non-profit\, Support The Pink House. \nPink House artwork can also be found in the Summer Gift Shop by artists Barry Berman and Bonita LeFlore\, while NAA Poet-in-Residence\, John Burciaga’s “Ode to The Pink House” poem will be displayed in the Sargent Gallery. \nThe Summer Art Market series in the Sculpture Garden\, will continue on Sunday\, July 12th\, August\, 9th\, and September 13th\, 11am-3pm. \nNew Hours: Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00am–5:00pm. He performs extensively with his longtime musical partner\, pianist Wu Han\, and appears internationally as a soloist\, recitalist\, and chamber musician. BENJAMIN BEILMAN\, violin Benjamin Beilman has earned international acclaim for his passionate performances and distinctive tone\, described by The New York Times as “muscular with a glint of violence” and praised by The Strad for its “pure poetry.” Known for his instinctive sense of form and color\, he brings a balance of elegance and surprise to both core repertoire and contemporary music. Highlights of Beilman’s 2025–26 season include appearances with the Minnesota Orchestra\, Dresden Philharmonic\, Antwerp Symphony\, Nashville Symphony\, and Solistes Européens Luxembourg\, as well as a month-long tour of Australasia with leading orchestras. He continues his acclaimed recital partnership with pianist Steven Osborne and curates chamber music programs at the Sun Valley Music Festival. Recent seasons have included his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic under Kirill Petrenko\, alongside performances with major orchestras worldwide. In early 2019\, Sue opened her own gallery and studio\, Arts Abound in Magnolia Village\, MA\, as an artistic haven for local artists. Through the gallery\, over 30 artists featured their creative works\, ranging from paintings\, hand-painted silk scarves\, silver jewelry\, and more. Sue also ran many workshops and classes featuring many of the artists. Often\, Sue would work late into the night\, painting in her Arts Abound studio. After closing the gallery in 2022\, Sue continued to offer the often sold-out painting classes\, taught by some of the Arts Abound artists. \nSue has studied under numerous artists to learn watercolor\, acrylic painting\, cold wax & oil\, and collage. Her goals for the Hammond Castle Museum sketch classes are to engage those who are new to the world of art and reinvigorate those who haven’t picked up a blank canvas or sketch pad in a long time. Sue’s philosophy on the creative process encourages you to be less concerned about the final product and instead to enjoy the journey of creativity and get lost in the moment. DESCRIPTION:Mark Steinberg\, violin & Jonathan Biss\, piano\nBrentano Quartet violinist Mark Steinberg joins pianist Jonathan Biss for three Mozart sonatas—K.305\, K.380\, and the expansive K.454—pairing youthful energy and lyrical warmth with the clarity\, balance\, and expressive interplay that define these remarkable works. \nProgram:\nSonata in A major\, K. 305\nSonata in E-flat major\, K. 380\nSonata in B-flat major\, K. 454 \nMARK STEINBERG\, violin\nViolinist Mark Steinberg is an active chamber musician and recitalist with a distinguished international career. He has appeared at major chamber music festivals throughout Europe\, including engagements in Holland\, Germany\, Austria\, and France\, and participated for four summers at the Marlboro Music Festival\, touring extensively with the ensemble. His U.S. appearances include the El Paso Festival\, Bargemusic in New York\, Chamber Music Northwest\, and performances with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. \nA frequent and versatile collaborator\, Steinberg has performed trio and duo recitals with pianist Mitsuko Uchida\, including their presentation of the complete Mozart violin sonata cycle at London’s Wigmore Hall in 2001\, followed by additional recitals in other major cities. As a soloist\, he has appeared with the London Philharmonia\, Los Angeles Philharmonic\, Auckland Philharmonia\, Kansas City Camerata\, and the Philadelphia Concerto Soloists\, working with conductors such as Kurt Sanderling\, Esa-Pekka Salonen\, and Miguel Harth-Bedoya. \nAn ardent advocate for contemporary music\, Steinberg has collaborated closely with many composers and performed with leading new-music ensembles including the Guild of Composers\, Da Capo Chamber Players\, Speculum Musicae\, and Continuum\, with whom he has toured and recorded extensively. He has also performed and recorded on period instruments with the Helicon Ensemble\, Four Nations Ensemble\, and the Smithsonian Institution. \nSteinberg holds degrees from Indiana University and The Juilliard School\, where he studied with Louise Behrend\, Josef Gingold\, and Robert Mann. He has taught at Juilliard’s Pre-College Division\, Princeton University\, and New York University\, and is currently on the violin faculty of the Mannes College of Music. \nJONATHAN BISS\, piano\nJonathan Biss is an internationally acclaimed pianist recognized for his profound musicianship\, intellectual curiosity\, and deeply communicative performances. Born in 1980 into a musical family\, he began piano studies at age six and grew up in Bloomington\, Indiana\, studying with Karen Taylor and Evelyne Brancart. At seventeen\, he entered the Curtis Institute of Music to study with Leon Fleisher\, an experience central to his artistic development. \nBiss has established himself as one of the leading pianists of his generation\, appearing regularly with major orchestras and conductors worldwide. He has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra\, New York Philharmonic\, Los Angeles Philharmonic\, Chicago Symphony Orchestra\, Boston Symphony Orchestra\, and Philadelphia Orchestra\, as well as many of Europe’s leading ensembles. His collaborators have included Lorin Maazel\, Esa-Pekka Salonen\, Simon Rattle\, and Yannick Nézet-Séguin. He is also a frequent recitalist in major concert halls across North America\, Europe\, and Asia. \nEspecially admired for his interpretations of the core classical repertoire—particularly Beethoven\, Schubert\, Mozart\, and Brahms—Biss has released numerous critically acclaimed recordings. These include a complete cycle of Beethoven’s piano sonatas\, issued in nine volumes\, as well as recordings of concertos and chamber music. \nCommitted to education and musical inquiry\, Biss is the author of Exploring Beethoven’s Piano Sonatas and a long-standing member of the faculty at the Curtis Institute of Music.

DESCRIPTION:Bring Dad to Appleton Farms on the Saturday of Father’s Day weekend for our own seasonal wood-fired pizza\, local beer\, wine and cider\, local BBQ\, and live music! Appleton will be slinging their famous pies which are not to be missed! We’ll have Notch Brewing on-site serving up some beer\, wine\, and cider\, with barbecue from Fat Belly Food Truck and sweet treats from DownRiver Ice Cream. \nEnjoy music from Orville Giddings and Gravity Rising.\nOrville Giddings will take the stage from 12:30-2:30\, and Gravity Rising from 3:00-5:00. \nPlease select either 12pm\, 1pm or 2:30pm for your timed-ticket entrance fee. Tickets are by the car – $20 for Trustees Members and $30 for nonmembers. Carpooling is encouraged! The cost will cover parking and access to this special event\, including the concert and games. Food\, hayrides and beer must be purchased separately and are available only at the event. \nSpace is limited and pre-registration is strongly suggested. This event is known to sell out! Limited seating is available. We recommend bringing blankets or camping chairs. Cellist-filmmaker Nicholas Canellakis and pianist-composer Michael Stephen Brown move seamlessly from gorgeous classics to their own virtuosic arrangements and originals to their wildly popular comedy films (which have garnered tens of millions of views online)\, creating one unforgettable evening. \nMICHAEL STEPHEN BROWN\, piano\nMichael Stephen Brown is a composer and pianist hailed by the New York Times as “one of the leading figures in the current renaissance of performer-composers.” The 2026 Andrew Wolf Award Winner and a recent fellow at both MacDowell and Yaddo\, he is also a recipient of Lincoln Center’s Emerging Artist Award and an Avery Fisher Career Grant. Brown performs internationally and receives commissions from orchestras\, soloists\, and festivals around the world. \nRecent highlights include a recital at Alice Tully Hall for CMS\, and collaborations with cellist Nicholas Canellakis and violinists Pinchas Zukerman\, Kristin Lee\, and Arnaud Sussmann.
