DESCRIPTION:Cape Ann Museum Courtyard\, Downtown Campus\n27 Pleasant St\, Gloucester\, MA\, 01930\n$10 for CAM Members\, $20 for non-members\nRegistration Required \nExplore the area surrounding the Museum on this walk past select Gloucester houses made famous by American realist painter Edward Hopper (1882-1967). Hopper is known to have painted in Gloucester on five separate occasions in the first decades of the 20th century. His paintings from this period capture the local landscape and architecture in a loosely rendered\, light–filled style and are considered by many to be some of his finest works. \nStroll with a CAM Docent for about 1 1/2 hours as you loop around downtown Gloucester. \nWhere to Meet?\nThough the Downtown Campus is currently closed for renovations until the spring of 2026\, the tour will gather at the courtyard attached to the Museum on 27 Pleasant Street. Explore the newest exhibition\, Breath of Life – C.B. Fisk\, Designers & Builders of Pipe Organs to learn about these incredible instruments. View intricate models of the architectural spaces and pipe organs they design\, see tools used in the construction process\, take an audio scavenger hunt\, and enjoy one of the daily drop-in art making activities. \nDrop-in Art Making: Make a paper model of a pipe organ. Ages 4+\nCarlson Education Center\nPipe Making Demonstration by Ted Stoddard: Watch and ask questions as Ted Stoddard\, organ pipe maker\, demonstrates how pipes are made at C.B. Fisk.\nTed Stoddard joined C. B. Fisk in 1990 and focused primarily on pipe-making and flue voicing. A Michigan native\, he has music degrees from DePauw University and University of Cincinnati College – Conservatory of Music. SUMMARY:5-Day Bare Bones Wood Carving Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Here is a great opportunity to learn the fundamentals of woodcarving in 5 days from a professional! \nFor those of you who cannot find time for the five consecutive days\, this is what I do. If you take a two or three-day course you are taking the first two or three days of my five-day workshop which is broken up into daily learning chapters. So three days brings you to chapter three\, two days to chapter two. The weekend workshops will give you a basic understanding of the skill of wood carving which includes hand-carving technique\, sharpening\, and designing skills among other topics but the full training takes five days. You will also do the carving projects to reinforce the hand techniques that we talk about so that you gain much needed muscle memory in your hands. \nSome students may be satisfied with the information learned\, others may choose to find their way back for another weekend and finish the last two or three days to get all the necessary techniques and insights. When you return\, (it can be during that calendar year or the next) everyone else is at the beginning point on the start of the weekend\, but you pick up where you left off to finish your training.
