DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, June 14 – Sunday\, June 15\, 2025\n10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.\nCAM Green\n13 Poplar Street\, Gloucester\, MA 01930\nFree and Open to the Public.\nParking is first come\, first served. \nOn June 14 and 15\, join us on the CAM Green for activities focusing on five key events leading up to the American Revolutionary War through the lens of local history\, as Gloucester prepares for the 250th anniversary reenactment of the Battle of Bunker Hill. \nActivities include creating broadsides\, trying out 18th century calligraphy flourishes\, making mini-ships to navigate a map of the harbor\, learning a Colonial dice game\, and more. \nLearn about the Stamp Act of 1765\, the Saville Incidents of 1768 and 1770\, the Tea Act of 1773\, the Boston Port Bill of 1774\, and the pivotal year of 1775\, all while discovering how these important historic moments affected Cape Ann residents\, and how local citizens rose to the occasion. \nPlus\, visit the Collections Highlights Case: Gloucester During the Revolution in the Janet & William Ellery James Center\, step into the White-Ellery House\, a c.1710 landmark whose residents witnessed these events\, and the Contemporary Art Wetu\, illustrating the ongoing Indigenous presence in the lands and waters that today are known as Cape Ann. \nWant to take a deeper dive into Cape Ann Revolutionary connections? DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, June 19\, 2025\n9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.\nGloucester City Hall\n9 Dale Avenue\, Gloucester\, MA 01930\nFree and Open to the Public. \nJoin the Cape Ann Museum at Gloucester City Hall to celebrate Juneteenth\, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. \n9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Flag raising with comments from city officials and CAM staff outside City Hall. \n9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. Community reading of Frederick Douglass’s What to the Slave is the Fourth of July? Following the reading\, educator\, Project Scholar for the Freeman Family Project\, and Gloucester Juneteenth founder Toni Waldron will lead breakout groups for community members to discuss the speech and their experience reading it. Kyrouz Auditorium\, Gloucester City Hall \n10:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Interactive program in the City Hall parking lot guided by Toni Waldron on the history of the Freeman family\, a prominent Black family living in Gloucester in the 18th and 19th centuries. A table organized and staffed by the Bookstore of Gloucester and Dogtown Books will distribute books that center diverse voices\, including those written by BIPOC authors\, to visitors thanks to the generosity of Action\, Inc. Plus\, family art activities led by the CAM Teen Council and free scoops of red velvet ice cream provided by Holy Cow Ice Cream!” \nWe hope that you can join us for this community gathering to reflect on important history and the work that still needs to be done. \nFunding for this program has been provided by the Massachusetts Cultural Council through Mass Humanities.
