SUMMARY:Girls on Adventure!
DESCRIPTION:Girls on Adventure offers a unique opportunity for young women entering 7th\, 8th\, or 9th grade to immerse themselves in the world of the maritime sector\, meet inspiring professionals whose work focuses on the sea\, and learn the art of sailing aboard an authentic Tall Ship\, the 1926 Schooner Adventure. \nFrom July 15 – Friday\, Aug. 1\, participants will meet for a total of twelve\, five-hour sessions. In these sessions\, students will meet women working in marine and marine-related fields during visits to sites in Gloucester and Essex as well as during guest visits aboard Adventure. Field trips to the Essex Shipbuilding Museum\, GMGI\, and Applied Materials\, will provide hands-on learning and insights into the diverse career paths available in the maritime industry. \nCentral to the program is the hands-on experience aboard the iconic Schooner Adventure\, a 122’ traditionally-rigged fishing sailboat. Under the guidance of our experienced crew\, participants will learn the ropes of sailing through three dockside training days and six training sails\, mastering essential skills while forging lasting friendships. As the culmination of their journey\, Girls on Adventure participants will have the opportunity to showcase their newfound expertise by inviting friends and family for an evening sail in Gloucester Harbor.

DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, August 2\, 2025\n10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.\nCape Ann Museum Courtyard\, Downtown Campus\n27 Pleasant St\, Gloucester\, MA\, 01930\n$10 for CAM Members\, $20 for non-members\nRegistration Required \nExplore the area surrounding the Museum on this walk past select Gloucester houses made famous by American realist painter Edward Hopper (1882-1967). Hopper is known to have painted in Gloucester on five separate occasions in the first decades of the 20th century. His paintings from this period capture the local landscape and architecture in a loosely rendered\, light–filled style and are considered by many to be some of his finest works. \nStroll with a CAM Docent for about 1 1/2 hours as you loop around downtown Gloucester. \nWhere to Meet?\nThough the Downtown Campus is currently closed for renovations until the spring of 2026\, the tour will gather at the courtyard attached to the Museum on 27 Pleasant Street. Learn to distinguish prevalent styles\, note changes that have occurred over time\, and determine what questions to ask about historic houses. \nThis approximately 90-minute walk allows ample time to walk and talk with your knowledgeable guide and other participants. Together we will walk through time using the lens of Newburyport’s fashionable old houses! \nWear comfortable shoes for uneven terrain and bring a water bottle. In case of extreme weather\, this event will be an illustrated talk at the Museum of Old Newbury.

Pre-order of tickets is encouraged as space cannot be guaranteed without tickets. Please arrive 10 minutes before your tour starts. \nTours are $10\, $8 for seniors\, $5 for those under 18. DESCRIPTION:Friday\, August 8\, 2025\n10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.\nCape Ann Museum Courtyard\, Downtown Campus\n27 Pleasant St\, Gloucester\, MA\, 01930\n$10 for CAM Members\, $20 for non-members\nRegistration Required \nExplore the specific sites in the area of Gloucester known as Portuguese Hill depicted by renowned American realist painter Edward Hopper (1882-1967). Hopper is known to have painted in Gloucester on five separate occasions in the first decades of the 20th century. His paintings from this period capture the local landscape and architecture in a loosely rendered\, light-filled style and are considered by many to be some of his finest works. Also included are sites painted by Josephine Nivison Hopper (1883-1968)\, Hopper’s wife and artist in her own right\, whose work gained recognition long before her future husband’s success. Learn how this hillside neighborhood that the Hoppers travelled together inspired their artwork\, as well as the role the area plays in Gloucester history. \nIf you have enjoyed one of our Hopper’s Houses Downtown tours\, the Portuguese Hill tour takes you to another side of the city to see different views. It’s well worth the experience! \nStroll with a CAM Docent for about 1 1/2 hours towards Portuguese Hill and back to downtown Gloucester. This walking tour includes steep stairs and a length of the hill. \nWhere to Meet?\nThough the Downtown Campus is currently closed for renovations until the spring of 2026\, the tour will gather at the courtyard attached to the Museum on 27 Pleasant Street.
