DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, June 14 – Sunday\, June 15\, 2025\n10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.\nCAM Green\n13 Poplar Street\, Gloucester\, MA 01930\nFree and Open to the Public.\nParking is first come\, first served. \nOn June 14 and 15\, join us on the CAM Green for activities focusing on five key events leading up to the American Revolutionary War through the lens of local history\, as Gloucester prepares for the 250th anniversary reenactment of the Battle of Bunker Hill. \nActivities include creating broadsides\, trying out 18th century calligraphy flourishes\, making mini-ships to navigate a map of the harbor\, learning a Colonial dice game\, and more. \nLearn about the Stamp Act of 1765\, the Saville Incidents of 1768 and 1770\, the Tea Act of 1773\, the Boston Port Bill of 1774\, and the pivotal year of 1775\, all while discovering how these important historic moments affected Cape Ann residents\, and how local citizens rose to the occasion. \nPlus\, visit the Collections Highlights Case: Gloucester During the Revolution in the Janet & William Ellery James Center\, step into the White-Ellery House\, a c.1710 landmark whose residents witnessed these events\, and the Contemporary Art Wetu\, illustrating the ongoing Indigenous presence in the lands and waters that today are known as Cape Ann. \nWant to take a deeper dive into Cape Ann Revolutionary connections? DESCRIPTION:Cape Ann Museum Courtyard\, Downtown Campus\n27 Pleasant St\, Gloucester\, MA\, 01930\n$10 for CAM Members\, $20 for non-members\nRegistration Required \nAs a seaport town jutting into the Atlantic\, Gloucester was of strategic importance during the American Revolution and always under threat of attack. The people of the town stood ready to take action against the British\, and many of them did. In this walking tour down Middle Street — one of Gloucester’s oldest streets – we will step back in time to meet people who were witness to Revolution right from this spot; see where they lived and gathered\, in houses still standing today; and hear the stories of the roles they played in defending liberty\, as patriots\, privateers\, preachers and more. This tour was developed in conjunction with the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution. \nStroll with a CAM Docent for about 1 1/2 hours as you walk Middle Street in downtown Gloucester. \nWhere to Meet?\nThough the Downtown Campus is currently closed for renovations until the spring of 2026\, the tour will gather at the courtyard attached to the Museum on 27 Pleasant Street. Join us for a guided tour of Stevens-Coolidge House & Gardens\, a Colonial Revival treasure that reflects early 20th-century elegance and global influence. Once the summer home of Helen Stevens Coolidge and John Gardner Coolidge—a diplomat and descendant of Thomas Jefferson and nephew of Isabella Stewart Gardner—the historic house offers a unique glimpse into the lifestyle\, travels\, and tastes of a well-connected New England family. \nParticipants will begin with a short walk from our Garden Gateway Center and explore the first floor of the house. Every item in the home is a historic collection piece original to the couple and beautifully conserved. \nThe tour will last approximately 50-60 minutes. The first floor of the home is wheelchair accessible but we kindly ask no strollers\, food or drink in the home. \nPre-Registration is required. Space is limited. Admission includes access to the stunning formal gardens and grounds\, perfect for exploring before or after your tour. \nPre-registration is required. Refunds for this event must be requested 7 days prior to tour. In the event of cancellation\, you will be notified via the email address you used to register and refunded in full within 14 business days. Tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable.
