She’s the winner of some of the top songwriting awards\, including the Grand Prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition\, the prestigious Kerrville (TX) “Best New Folk Award” and\, in one of the nation’s top music markets\, the Boston Music Award for “Outstanding Folk Act”\, three of the top prizes in the singer songwriter world. \nSinger-songwriter\, Antje Duvekot is poised to unveil her fifth studio album\, “New Wild West”\, on September 15th. According to Duvekot\, this collection of songs marks the pivotal juncture of mid-life and represents a new rung on the ladder of healing from trauma. The songs on “New Wild West” signal a genuine shift in Duvekot’s relationship with some of the enduring themes she has grappled with over the years. “On the whole”\, says Duvekot\, “my older songs sought to disarm trauma by bluntly acknowledging its destabilizing nature and creating a space in which to exist with that sensation\, both for myself and my audiences. In contrast\, the newer songs have the teeth and tenacity to openly confront and defy trauma. As such\, I feel very warmly towards this collection of songs. They are long overdue dissidents”. Duvekot’s amplified voice in mid-life carries a protective fierceness that resonates across the album. Songs like “Girl on a Wire” and “Evolution” salute the perseverance we all apply to our human journey towards finding our voice. Duvekot says of hers\, “I crawled into music as a protective vessel when I was a teenager. It lent me safety and allowed me to stay open and let in more continuous sunlight than I could have\, otherwise. I want to pay back that loan. Many of the songs on ‘New Wild West’ do that”. \nThe album “New Wild West” came to fruition through the collaboration of Duvekot and esteemed New England singer-songwriter Mark Erelli after a joint tour inspired the idea. Over the course of a year\, Duvekot recorded most vocals from her home\, while Erelli laid down the majority of instrumentation and production in his basement studio with notable guest performances by Seth Glier\, Robby Hecht\, Winnie Horan\, John Gorka\, Richard Shindell\, and Kenny White. The tracks were mixed and mastered in Woodstock. Consistent with the album’s central theme of pushing beyond comfort zones and embracing new frontiers\, the cover art was generated by an AI\, which Duvekot admits made her considerably uncomfortable at first: “The AI-generated image is evocative and uncannily fitting\, yet I was uneasy about its non-human origin. In the end\, I could not resist the poetry behind that discomfort\, given the theme of the album!” \n“New Wild West” is lush with the poignant poetry that is the hallmark of every Antje Duvekot release. The album’s title track\, “New Wild West\,” encourages someone in a historical position of privilege to accept impending progress with a gently patronizing sense of sympathy. “Open Waters” espouses authenticity and bravery\, in contrast to “[those who] have volunteered to be chained by fear. From one pioneer to another: it’s not that we aren’t scared\, but I’ll meet you there\, out in the open waters.” “Girl on a Wire” revisits a tightrope metaphor that once ran through Duvekot’s 2009 song “Vertigo\,” where the protagonist feared “I will break all my bones; I lied about the Vertigo.” In “Girl\,” the protagonist\, instead\, “walks a tightrope in the eye of the storm…I am the girl who out-dared gravity…you can keep your Phoenix and SpaceX and Richard Branson\, this is me flying\, this is me dancing.” The opening track on the album\, “Evolution\,” echoes a similar sentiment\, celebrating growth (and literal evolution) and inviting us to “marvel at how far we came since the early dog days of our prehistoric dawn. Back when the phases of the moon were still just phrases without a tune…But I see you now and Holy cow\, look at you now.” \nThe piano track\, “Dylan Thomas (1996-1998)\,” was inspired by Duvekot passing by the gravestone of a two-year-old inside a cemetery while on tour. In it\, she gives thanks for the grace of time: “I know now what I owe\, and I shall speak it in your name. It’s to drink freely from that well and not dwell one more day in the walls of shame.” Moving past self-pity into ownership\, she declares “I am no unlucky one.” Some thematically stand-alone tracks include “Anwesenheit\,” an Earth Day song commissioned by the Goethe Institute\, and “Lottery Ticket\,” written on assignment for a podcast. Additionally\, there’s the sultry “Traces\,” which describes the romantic chemistry felt across a telephone line while dating during Covid. \nYet another testament to the powerhouse that is Antje Duvekot\, “New Wild West” is a sonic and lyrical knockout that marks a newly blazed trail in Duvekot’s songwriting career\, celebrating the mid-life transition into a greater sense of self. As always\, Duvekot deftly captures the essence of the collective journey that is the human condition\, and Mark Erelli hits it home with exquisitely executed musical orchestration. \nDan Bern\nDan Bern is a captivating live performer who has enthralled a loyal and ever-growing fan base in the US and Europe since the mid ‘90s. Geoff is regarded as one of the most skilled vocalists in the genre with hundreds of modern\, popular artists citing him and his former band as a major influence. Combining social consciousness and expertly crafted lyrics with high-energy\, melodically complex music\, Queensryche with Geoff Tate at the forefront became internationally recognized as the thinking man’s rock band. The band’s first three albums — their self-titled EP (1983)\, The Warning (1984) and Rage for Order (1986) — all hit gold status selling over 500\,000 units each. \nWith the release of their landmark concept album Operation: Mindcrime (1988) — which won critical and popular acclaim and comparisons to the Who’s Tommy and Pink Floyd’s The Wall — Queensryche went on to bring their progressive music to sold-out audiences the world over. Following the album’s platinum success\, Queensryche released Empire\, which quickly entered the Top Ten on the Billboard charts\, eventually generating sales of more than three million copies. The album featured the hugely popular hit\, “Silent Lucidity\,” which would be the band’s first Top Ten single (#9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and #1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart). Geoff and the band would ultimately perform the Grammy nominated song live at the Grammy awards accompanied by a supporting orchestra. In all\, Queensryche has been nominated for a Grammy four times and has had their music featured in three feature films. \nIn 2006\, the band released Operation: Mindcrime II\, a scorching sequel to their original 1988 tale of “Rock\, Revenge and Redemption.” The band would soon hit the road performing both albums back-to-back in their entirety in an incredible theatrical presentation. The spectacle would be captured on Mindcrime at the Moore\, a double CD/DVD release so popular that the DVD would debut at #1 on Billboard’s Top Music DVD chart and eventually reach gold status. Shortly after the release of that hugely successful set\, Queensryche would release another gem in 2007 titled\, Sign of the Times: The Best of Queensryche\, that featured 17 career-spanning tracks including seven Top 10 hits with a two-CD deluxe Collector’s Edition that added fifteen rare and previously unreleased recordings. Later that year\, the band found themselves on the fall leg of the highly acclaimed Heaven and Hell Tour with the late\, great Ronnie James Dio\, Tony Iommi\, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice along with other special guest\, Alice Cooper. The year would culminate with the release of Take Cover\, an adventurous 11-song collection of covers ranging from Black Sabbath to Broadway. \nIn early 2009\, Queensryche released American Soldier (via Atco/Rhino Records)\, a concept album inspired by the stories of military veterans that examines the consequences of war from the soldier’s perspective… yet another effort that will solidify Geoff and the band in rock history. A truly memorable experience\, the band met with\, and performed for\, troops in both the U.S. and the Middle East. In the year 2010\, Queensryche would\, once again\, display their immense creativity by presenting the Queensryche Cabaret\, which was heralded as “the first adults-only rock show.” In 2011\, the band would find themselves celebrating their 30th Anniversary in rock\, marking the occasion with the release of Dedicated to Chaos (Roadrunner Records/Loud & Proud) and an extensive support tour. \nAt the end of 2012\, Geoff released his first solo album in over a decade titled\, Kings & Thieves (InsideOut Music)\, that was quickly followed by the news of a 25th Anniversary Mindcrime Tour that would encompass the United States in 2013. Also that year\, Geoff would release what would be his last album under the Queensryche name\, Frequency Unknown (Cleopatra Records)\, an effort that would feature such guest musicians as Ty Tabor\, K.K. Downing\, Brad Gillis\, Dave Meniketti and Chris Poland along with the members of his version of Queensryche at the time – Rudy Sarzo\, Robert Sarzo\, Simon Wright\, Kelly Gray and Randy Gane. \nIn 2014\, it was announced that Geoff and his band mates would be embarking on their farewell tour as Queensryche\, with a subsequent announcement stating that Queensryche with original lead singer Geoff Tate would be changing its name to “Operation: Mindcrime” in September for future tours and recordings. By the end of the year\, Geoff began working on one of his most ambitious works to date\, an entirely new concept album\, titled The Key\, that would be the first in a trilogy. Released in September of 2015 (Frontiers Music SRL)\, the debut album examined the question\, “What would you do if you discovered the key to changing the way we view the world\, the way we look at time\, the way we travel\, and could essentially change the human condition — for better or for worse?” Next in the trilogy would be 2016’s Resurrection\, completed by 2017’s The New Reality. All three albums were followed up with international tours that included extensive tours of the United States. \nBeginning in March 2025\, Geoff and the current line-up of Operation: Mindcrime\, hit the road to celebrate the final chapter of Operation: Mindcrime\, performing the 1988 landmark concept album from beginning to end in its entirety… It’s a show that Geoff loves to perform and fans love to see\, only proving that good music never goes out of style. As always\, Geoff looks forward to the musical journey that lies ahead and can’t wait to perform his next big rock show.

DESCRIPTION:In this life\, very few friendships withstand the test of time. \nNaturally\, people go their separate ways and chase their own dreams. As rare as it may be for friendships to last a lifetime\, it might be even rarer for a band to stick together for the long haul. For close to four decades\, the members of Big Head Todd and The Monsters—Todd Park Mohr [vocals\, guitar\, keys\, sax\, harmonica]\, Brian Nevin [drums]\, Rob Squires [bass\, vocals]\, and Jeremy Lawton [keyboards\, lap pedal/steel guitar\, vocals]—have continued to both throw down in the studio and light up stages worldwide. Rallying around a core vision\, the platinum-selling Colorado quartet kick out the kind of blues-drenched rock ‘n’ roll bangers that make you want to rev the engine a little louder\, sing along like no one’s looking\, and live a little freer. \nThis holds true on their 12th full-length offering\, Her Way Out. \n“To me\, my band means four people who listen to each other\, work hard\, and share a goal\,” Todd observes. “The goal has to do with reaching out to people\, catching their ears\, and sharing a story we hope they relate to. Our fans have given us an incredible 40-year career\, and we hope they’ve gotten great songs and performances in return.” \nThey’ve most definitely delivered on both fronts… \nAs the story goes\, Todd\, Brian\, and Rob unlocked their musical partnership during high school when they started jamming in the early eighties. Fast forward to 1986\, they adopted the moniker Big Head Todd and The Monsters. BHTM released 2 successful independent records on their own BIG Records\, Another Mayberry (1989) and Midnight Radio (1990) before drawing the attention of music industry titans and signing with Irving Azoff\, Chuck Morris\, and Frank Barsalona in 1992. They broke nationally with the platinum-certified staple Sister Sweetly (1993) which yielded four top 10 rock radio hits. They continued to progress with Strategem [1994] and Beautiful World [1997] which yielded several more rock radio hits including Boom Boom featuring John Lee Hooker. The band is continually touring and recording and has continued to put out albums that have received critical acclaim from both fans and press. \nAmong other milestones\, their music literally reached the heavens when they played “Blue Sky” live at NASA Mission Control\, delivering a celestial wakeup for astronauts aboard the International Space Station. They’ve toured and recorded with many rock and blues legends including B.B. King\, Neil Young\, The Allman Brothers\, Hubert Sumlin\, David “Honeyboy” Edwards\, Dave Matthews Band\, The Eagles and their personal favorite Robert Plant. Not to mention\, they attained hometown hero status by headlining Red Rocks Amphitheatre 35 times in addition to earning induction into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame in 2023. \nHer Way Out came to life organically. For two years\, they hosted “Monster’s Music Monthly\,” serving up either a new song or a new version of a classic online. Working out of Jeremy’s home studio\, they parlayed this momentum into their latest LP. \n“It had been almost seven years since our last album release\, but we wanted to put the same energy of ‘Monster’s Music Monthly’ into a full-length\,” Todd notes. “We have a very distinct personality as a band. I write to the sensibilities of each member\, because they’re going to have to dig playing it. We’re a benevolent democracy. If one guy isn’t connecting with a certain song\, that song is out. As an uncomplicated rock band\, we like to do things that are ‘proper’—loud guitars\, drums\, big bass\, and well-placed organ\, keys\, and lap steel. We road-tested every song on the record before recording a lick. All of that helped us dial in the arrangements\, ditch tunes that didn’t work\, and grow a strong sense of what our individual parts should be.” \nIn this respect\, the single and title track “Her Way Out” packs a concentrated and catchy punch. Anchored by a steady beat\, the rough and tumble riff kicks up dust as soulful vocals ignite an irresistible refrain\, “She found her way out\, her way out—and it was me.” \n“It’s driven by the idea that relationships are frail\,” he elaborates. “Sometimes\, they are something one wants freedom from. A real-life circumstance drives this story. Something was said when a person had too much to drink. The relationship ended with words\, but the drinker could never know what he said and the woman refused to tell him.” \nAss-kicking guitar surges through “Thunderbird” as strains of organ coat a raucous refrain with a lyrical tip-of-the-hat to the Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas classic American Graffiti. \nHe goes on\, “‘Thunderbird’ is a collection of one-liners from the film knit together with a beat poet vibe. It has an AC/DC-like guitar riff and a cinematic-style vocal. It’s all about drag racing and love never caught.” \nElsewhere\, Big Head Todd and The Monsters nod to Annie Oakley with “Don’t Kill Me Tonight.” Then\, there’s “King Kong.” A hulking groove lumbers beneath the frontman’s bluesy intonation as a piano solo bleeds into a skyscraper-scaling guitar lead. \n“It’s inspired by a large movie poster in my basement of King Kong on top of the Empire State Building\,” Todd reveals. “I’m drawn to these iconic contemporary heroes who are also monsters. They are complicated because they destroy so much\, yet are sympathetic to children and fall in love with human women. These ‘Titans’\, as they are called\, are often monsters of our own making. It’s exciting to perform live.” \nIn the end\, the future looks as bright as ever for these longtime friends. \n“We work very hard at being a great band\,” Todd leaves off. “We’re also a group that cares for each other. We’ve been together for almost 40 years. Formed in Ithaca\, New York\, in the mid 1990s\, at a time when there wasn’t yet a far-reaching U.S. reggae scene\, JBB was one of a small handful of U.S. reggae bands that began touring nationally. Since then\, JBB has played an important role in helping define distinctly “American reggae.” JBB’s music is steeped in traditional vibes\, but unapologetically incorporates elements from other genres. \nTheir unique approach resonated with the masses. The group’s 2008 full-length record\, Amplify\, hit #1 on the Billboard Reggae Chart\, 2012’s JBB In Dub EP reached #1 on iTunes’ Reggae Chart\, and in 2013 Kings And Queens topped both Billboard and iTunes Reggae Charts at #1. The national touring production completed their 50+ city tour as well as their production in the West End at the Prince Edward Theatre\, U.K. \nMotown auditioned and signed the original Temptations (Otis Williams\, Melvin Franklin\, Paul Williams\, Eddie Kendricks\, and Elbridge “Al” Bryant) in May of 1961. When Mervyn Warren joined shortly afterward\, they took the name Alliance. Yet\, when they signed to Reprise Records/Warner Bros. in 1987\, they found that there was another group with the same name\, so they became Take 6. Says McKnight: “Take 6 was all about a democratic process of sitting in a room together and throwing a couple of hundred names at each other and Take 6 was the one that got the most yay votes [laughing.] It pretty much was a play on the Take 5 jazz standard and the fact that there are six of us in the group\, so it became Take 6.” Their self-titled debut CD won over jazz and pop critics\, scored two 1988 Grammy Awards\, landed in the Top Ten Billboard Contemporary Jazz and Contemporary Christian Charts — and they’ve never slowed down. \nWhat makes the music and the group last this long? The answers are direct and simple: faith\, friendship\, respect\, and love of music. The multi-platinum selling sextet says of their longevity\, “We are family in the sense that we care deeply about each other\, which helps keep us together. We have times when it gets tough\, but we pull together because of the love and respect we have for one another. The group’s willingness to let members do other projects also adds to the brand and the cohesiveness of the group\,” says Joey Kibble. Kibble is a motivational speaker and Alvin Chea does voiceover work session-singing on dozens of TV shows\, feature films and commercials with his uniquely recognizable bass vocals. Founded in 2013\, The BrassFed Nation is dedicated to the advancement of horn-driven music through exposure and outreach in both education and local musical culture!
