DESCRIPTION:The pride of New Orleans’ vibrant and fertile trad jazz scene\, Tuba Skinny returns to Rockport for two shows! The beloved Crescent City collective started out over a decade ago as show-stopping French Quarter street buskers and have since turned into one of New Orleans’ greatest musical ambassadors\, touring the world with their delicious\, spirited takes on Depression-era blues\, spirituals\, ragtime and traditional jazz. They’re touring in support of their joyful new release\, Hot Town. \n“masterful and exuberant”- OffBeat Magazine\nOfficially forming in in 2009\, Tuba Skinny has steadily evolved from a loose collection of street musicians into an ensemble dedicated to bringing the traditional New Orleans sound to audiences around the world. Before becoming Tuba Skinny\, the core of the band played in an assortment of bands on the streets of the French Quarter in the years following Hurricane Katrina. Those bands\, the folkie punk Dean Man Street Orchestra (which included singer-songwriter Alynda Segarra of the acclaimed Hurray for the Riff Raff) and Loose Marbles both had an enormous effect on the musical culture of New Orleans\, particularly its burgeoning revivalist jazz scene. From the start\, Tuba Skinny’s home was on Royal Street in the French Quarter\, drawing huge crowds for their jubilant hipster take on trad jazz. They soon began touring the country and then even Europe\, playing in clubs and busking around city centers. \nDrawing on a wide range of musical influences\, their sound evokes the rich musical heritage of their New Orleans home. The band has gained a loyal following through their distinctive sound\, their commitment to reviving long-lost songs\, and their barnstorming live performances. Her new album “Quincy” explores Diggs’ unique style of Soul\, Folk\, and R&B. Diggs was nominated in the “Best New Artist” and “Album of the Year” categories at the 2023 New England Music Awards and was recently honored as one of 10 artists of color making a difference in the Boston area by WBUR. She has opened for the likes of Trombone Shorty\, Lizzie No\, Tank and The Bangas\, and has toured with Heather Maloney. We have had many great music stars come to see us – that is very flattering and they come up to speak to you afterwards and you feel like asking for their autograph. We are both a visual and an audio act and at first I thought we would never be suitable for radio but I was wrong and we are often asked to do appear on radio shows and we love it. Well\, what we do is sing\, but at the same time\, we each impersonate musical instruments and create a wall of sound without anyone playing anything. We are also very visual. DESCRIPTION:One of the country’s pre-eminent singer-songwriters\, Rosanne Cash has released 15 albums of extraordinary songs that have earned four Grammy Awards and 12 additional nominations. \nCash is also an author whose four books include the best-selling memoir Composed\, which the Chicago Tribune called “one of the best accounts of an American life you’ll likely ever read.” Her essays have appeared in The New York Times\, Rolling Stone\, Oxford American\, The Nation\, and many more print and online publications. Her most recent book\, Bird on a Blade (2018)\, was published by University OF Texas Press\, combining images by acclaimed artist Dan Rizzie with Cash’s lyrics. In addition to regular touring\, Cash has partnered in programming collaborations with Carnegie Hall\, Lincoln Center\, SFJAZZ\, the Minnesota Orchestra\, and the Library of Congress. She served as artist-in-residence at New York University and in 2018 and 2023 she was a resident artistic director at SFJAZZ. \nAlong with many other honors and awards\, Cash received the 2021 Edward MacDowell Medal\, awarded since 1960 to an artist who has made an outstanding contribution to American culture. Performing songs created by the most iconic musicians in rock history\, The Rock and Roll Playhouse band offers its core audience of families with children age ten and under games\, movement\, stories and an opportunity to rock out in an effort to educate children and explore their creativity. The Rock and Roll Playhouse is an early and often first introduction to a child’s lifelong journey with live music and rock and roll. This children’s concert is not associated with or endorsed by the artist. See you at the show! \nThis concert for kids and families shares the music of the artist named above with a new generation of music lovers\, but is not associated with or endorsed by the artist. All children must be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver.\nThe Rock and Roll Playhouse knows that little ears are sensitive\, so we turn down the volume at our shows.
