SUMMARY:CAMTalk: Exhibition Series — The Changing Times: The 21st century GDT Newsroom
DESCRIPTION:Since 2005\, the final year represented in CAM’s collection of Gloucester Daily Times photographs and in the exhibit Above the Fold\, the work of the newspaper has continued\, though not without challenges. Today\, in the United States\, an average of two daily or weekly newspapers close each week. Local coverage not only educates and brings vibrance to a community\, but also holds city officials\, businesses\, and organizations accountable to the people they serve. Cape Ann is fortunate that the GDT has largely weathered the storm in the newspaper industry. \nJoin Times staff\, Editor Andrea Holbrook\, Reporters Ethan Forman and Gail McCarthy\, and current staff photographer Paul Bilodeau as they discuss the changes that have occurred in the newsroom and in photography from the time periods highlighted in the exhibit to the present day. The panel\, moderated by Head Librarian & Archivist and curator of the exhibit Trenton Carls\, will also discuss their individual roles in the Museum’s acquisition of the estimated one million photographs as well as their work on researching and building the exhibition.
