SUMMARY:Father's Day BBQ Bash at Appleton Farms
DESCRIPTION:Bring Dad to Appleton Farms on the Saturday of Father’s Day weekend for our own seasonal wood-fired pizza\, local beer\, wine and cider\, local BBQ\, and live music! Appleton will be slinging their famous pies which are not to be missed! We’ll have Notch Brewing on-site serving up some beer\, wine\, and cider\, with barbecue from Fat Belly Food Truck and sweet treats from DownRiver Ice Cream. \nEnjoy music from Orville Giddings and Gravity Rising.\nOrville Giddings will take the stage from 12:30-2:30\, and Gravity Rising from 3:00-5:00. \nPlease select either 12pm\, 1pm or 2:30pm for your timed-ticket entrance fee. Tickets are by the car – $20 for Trustees Members and $30 for nonmembers. Carpooling is encouraged! The cost will cover parking and access to this special event\, including the concert and games. Food\, hayrides and beer must be purchased separately and are available only at the event. \nSpace is limited and pre-registration is strongly suggested. This event is known to sell out! Limited seating is available. We recommend bringing blankets or camping chairs. Women have shaped Appleton Farms for centuries: from Indigenous women who were the primary farmers and preservers of food\, to Joan Appleton and her ancestors\, to our current Trustees staff farmers. Learn about these women and the grit it takes to thrive as a woman in the male-dominated farm world. Get outside and moving on a winter day\, exploring the dormant crop fields\, forest trails\, and sweeping pastures of Appleton. \nAccessibility: This hike has a moderate level of difficulty on gently hilly terrain\, expect it to last approximately 2.5 hours. Be sure to wear weather appropriate clothing and boots or shoes that are appropriate for hiking in potentially wet and muddy spots or over uneven terrain\, or in light precipitation. We recommend you bring your own water bottle. Single use plastics are not permitted on site.

DESCRIPTION:What birds and other wildlife frequent the Appleton Farms fields\, woodlands\, and wetlands in the winter? This hike will start with some interactive games and demonstrations to get learners familiar with our resident winter birds and wildlife\, and to introduce techniques for bird observation and animal tracking. We will then head out on the trails to practice these skills! \nThe Family Explorer hiking series will get you and your young explorers outside and moving at Trustees properties across the Northeast Region. These family-friendly hikes cover less ground to accommodate smaller strides and have more frequent stops to look\, listen\, and learn from our Outdoor Guides. DESCRIPTION:Sessions start at: 11\, 12:15 & 1:30 Trustees Members $12/Nonmembers $20 \nVisit the historic maple stand and sugar shack at Appleton Farms and learn all about maple sugaring\, its history at the farm and in New England\, and how you can try your hand at it at home! \nExperience a leisurely stroll along our country farm roads and past several historic landscapes to our Appleton maple grove. You’ll learn some of the history of maple sugaring as well as the science behind what makes maple sap run in our trees. The stroll concludes with a visit to our sugar shack where you will see firsthand how we turn the collected sap into our delicious Appleton maple syrup! \nBe sure to wear weather appropriate clothing and boots or shoes that are appropriate for hiking in potentially wet and muddy spots or over uneven hilly terrain. All Maple Strolls are weather permitting and will last approximately 1 hour\, walking much of that time. We welcome all ages; however\, information is geared towards those 10 and up. Have smaller kids? Check out our family geared maple programming\, Maple in the Barnyard! \nSpace is limited for this event and pre-registration is strongly recommended. \nWe will have a food station open selling maple baked goods\, snacks and treats from 12-3pm by the sugar shack.
