Wharf Studio\, Gloucester reflects one such visit in 1958. Blaine was educated in representational\, realist\, and abstract methods of painting\, and was heavily influenced by the instruction of Abstract Expressionist Hans Hofmann (1880-1966). \nYou are invited to join us on Thursdays for a unique experience. Led by a CAM docent\, these deep dives into a single artwork or object from the Collection will begin with conversation\, a short presentation and complimentary coffee at the Carlson Education Center\, followed by a special trip to the James Center to view the object being discussed. At this Gallery Talk\, Greg Bover will discuss the collaborative process along with the history of C. B. Fisk. \nGreg Bover retired from C.B. Fisk\, Inc. in 2020 after 42 years as Project Manager\, designer\, and Vice President for Operations. He supervised the design and construction of more than thirty Fisk instruments in churches\, concert halls\, and academic institutions across the United States and around the world\, including The Memorial Church at Harvard\, the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas\, organs at Kobe and Yokohama\, and the firm’s magnum opus at the Cathedral in Lausanne\, Switzerland. \nGreg lives in Rockport with his wife Maureen Aylward. Long active in community building\, he is a Past President of the Sawyer Free Library and the Gloucester Rotary Club. He continues to serve on the Government Affairs Council of the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce\, is a Trustee of the Awesome Gloucester micro-grant foundation and is a Corporator of the Cape Ann Savings Bank. Honors include a Restoration Award from the Gloucester Historical Commission\, and citizenship awards from the Rotary Club\, Unitarian Universalist Church\, and the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce. An avid sailor and woodworker\, he is board president\, crew member\, and ship’s carpenter on the 122-foot\, 1926 schooner Adventure. Greg holds a Master’s Credential for vessels up to 200 tons. C.B. DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, May 17\, 2025\n11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.\nCAM Green\n13 Poplar Street\, Gloucester MA\nFree and open to the public.\nParking at O’Maley Innovation Middle School\, 32 Cherry Street\, Gloucester\, with complimentary Shuttle Bus. \nFor an opening reception in partnership with The Gloucester Student Arts Festival. View this year’s collaborative installations by second and eighth grade students of Cape Ann\, enjoy art making activities\, tour the White Ellery House and take a Cassie Scavenger Hunt through the James Center Gallery. All are invited! \nThis year CAM Educators worked with approximately 600 Cape Ann second and eighth graders. SUMMARY:Coffee and Conversations at the Carlson Education Center: Portrait of a Fisherman
DESCRIPTION:Carlson Education Center & Janet & William Ellery James Center\nCAM Green\, 13 Poplar Street\, Gloucester\, MA\nCAM Members Free\, Non-Members $5\nRegistration Required as space is limited. \nCome for a presentation about American Impressionist\, Edward Potthast (1857-1927)\, and his painting\, Portrait of a Fisherman. Potthast was a prominent figure in American Art\, exhibiting at the National Academy of Design and the Paris Salon whose paintings are characterized by their use of light and color. \nJoin us Thursdays for a unique experience. Led by a CAM docent\, these deep dives into a single artwork or object from the Collection will begin with conversation\, a short presentation and complimentary coffee at the Carlson Center\, followed by a special trip to the James Center to view the object being discussed. No special knowledge needed! DESCRIPTION:White-Ellery House\, CAM Green\n13 Poplar St\, Gloucester\, MA 01930\nFree and open to the public.\nRegistration Required due to limited space. \nThe White-Ellery House\, built in 1710 for the Reverend John White\, Gloucester’s first settled minister in First Parish\, was situated in Gloucester’s Town Green\, the center of the community at that time. The house exhibits a certain elegance and refinement while providing for basic needs of its early owners.
