The ensemble is named for Antonie Brentano\, believed by many scholars to be Beethoven’s “Immortal Beloved.” \nJONATHAN BISS\, piano\nJonathan Biss is an internationally acclaimed pianist recognized for his profound musicianship\, intellectual curiosity\, and deeply communicative performances. Born in 1980 into a musical family\, he began piano studies at age six and grew up in Bloomington\, Indiana\, studying with Karen Taylor and Evelyne Brancart. At seventeen\, he entered the Curtis Institute of Music to study with Leon Fleisher\, an experience central to his artistic development. \nBiss has established himself as one of the leading pianists of his generation\, appearing regularly with major orchestras and conductors worldwide. He has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra\, New York Philharmonic\, Los Angeles Philharmonic\, Chicago Symphony Orchestra\, Boston Symphony Orchestra\, and Philadelphia Orchestra\, as well as many of Europe’s leading ensembles. BCC after-school choral programs include 10 choirs with singers from 110 different zip codes in and around Boston. BCC is also proud to partner with schools to provide in-school choral education in Mattapan\, Roxbury\, South Boston\, East Boston\, Allston and the city of Chelsea. BCC presents over 50 performances per season in a wide range of public and private events. Comprising brothers Jonathan and Lukas Schwarz (violin and cello)\, Amelie Wallner (second violin)\, and Mayu Konoe (viola)\, the ensemble takes its name from Leonkoro—Esperanto for “lionheart”—a nod to Astrid Lindgren’s tale of brotherhood\, courage\, and emotional depth\, themes that resonate deeply in the string quartet repertoire. \nThe quartet achieved international prominence in 2022 with a sweep of major competitions: First Prize and nine special awards at the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition\, First Prize plus both Audience and Young Audience Prizes at the Concours de Bordeaux\, and the Jürgen Ponto Foundation Music Prize. They were named recipients of the MERITO String Quartet Award\, selected after a year of discreet evaluation by renowned musicians\, and joined the BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists program (2022–2024). \nTheir success continued into 2024\, receiving the Young Talent Award from the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and becoming Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award winners—further affirming their international standing. Born in Pennsylvania\, Chloe first reached for piano keys at the age of two. By twelve\, she was studying at the Manhattan School of Music followed by London’s Royal Academy of Music. \nThe multi-hyphenate star has become music and fashion’s go-to creator as she intertwines her personal couture style and unique sound into something the industry has never seen or heard. The Band was formed in December of 2010 when director Carlos Menezes Jr. teamed up with friends and fellow musicians Paula Burns\, Shawn Lowe\, Mike Lentini\, and Rick Geraghty to discuss the potentials of starting up a 17-piece big band. What was once a dream quickly became reality when Menezes found the roster full in just a week’s time.
