SUMMARY:Robert Cray Band
DESCRIPTION:Groovin’ 50 Years \nBlues icon. Soul man. Rock and roller. Robert Cray is all these things – and more. The Georgiaborn\, Washington-raised musician first picked up a guitar after seeing The Beatles on TV then\, having witnessed Jimi Hendrix perform in Seattle\, determined that his destiny would follow a similar path. And so it turned out: across the past half-century Robert Cray has developed into one of American music’s most singular artists. \nFrom forming a teenage garage band\, through to striding the stage alongside several of the world’s greatest guitarists\, Robert Cray’s story is one of struggle and commitment. Struggle and commitment that led to Cray enjoying phenomenal success – selling millions of albums and countless concert tickets – while his skills as a band leader and performer mark him as a keeper of the flame for American roots music. \nCray’s commitment to making music of the highest order has won him both a loyal audience and the respect of many legendary figures. Robert Cray has shared stage and/or studio with the likes of John Lee Hooker and B.B. King\, Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters\, Albert Collins and Stevie Ray Vaughan\, the Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton\, Tina Turner and Buddy Guy\, the Memphis Horns and Hi Rhythm Section. \n– Cray’s 1986 breakthrough album Strong Persuader is the best selling blues album ever.\n– Cray has won five Grammy Awards.\n– Cray has been inducted into Hollywood’s Rock Walk and the Blues Hall of Fame.\n– Cray is recipient of the Americana Music Lifetime Achievement Award for Performance.\n– Cray has designed two signature model Fender guitars. \n“Nothing beats playing live\,” says Cray of his forthcoming US tour dates. “Audiences inspire me and my band to reach for the top every night.” Of his half century leading a rocking band he says\, “it’s been a great ride so far. And the best is yet to come.” \nThe Robert Cray Band consists of Richard Cousins (bass guitar)\, Dover Weinberg (keyboards)\, George Sluppick (drums) and Robert Cray (vocals/guitar).

SUMMARY:Paula Cole
DESCRIPTION:Paula Cole’s eleventh studio album\, “Lo” is devastatingly personal and utterly gorgeous. \nHer first album of original compositions in five years\, “Lo”’s eleven songs\, written entirely by Cole\, navigate her opening to trust again after indelible blows of life. As the first woman to ever be nominated for the Best Producer Grammy in her own right\, Paula Cole returns to the helm of recording as sole producer. On “Lo”\, her loyal bandmates of many years (musicians that are stars unto themselves) join Cole in the studio. “Lo” was recorded entirely live\, featuring full band performances from Jay Bellerose (drums)\, Chris Bruce (guitars)\, Ross Gallagher (upright and electric bass\, backing vocals) and Rich Hinman (pedal steel\, guitars). It was recorded and mixed by nine-time-Grammy-award-winning-engineer\, Mike Piersante\, whose unique sound is the canvas for “Lo.” \nThe autobiographies that are the songs of “Lo”\, are the newest Polaroid snapshots of Cole’s life. The focus is her most recent period of years\, saying goodbye to her friend and early collaborator\, Mark Hutchins\, on “The Replacements & Dinosaur Jr.”\, reflecting on her childhood’s psychological influence in “Follow The Moon”\, her primary relationship\, in which she wrestles inner demons in “Green Eyes Crying”\, lays down her “Invisible Armor” to find hope\, rebirth\, acceptance in “Monday\, Tuesday\, Wednesday\,” and physical intimacy in “take it take it take it”. Cole faces her identity in the spine-chilling\, redemptive “Wildflower”. “Lo” is a window to Paula Cole’s psyche. Continuing her social-justice writing through music\, Cole’s “Lo” reveals songs “Calling All Saviors” (a catchy pop gem)\, and “Letter From A Quarry Miner” (written from a North American quarryman\, to his European family during The Great Depression in 1932.) Cole weaves in the words of W. B. Yeats in “Golden Apples of the Sun ” while honoring Ray Bradbury in “Fahrenheit 451”. The song is a poem\, touching on the concept of the anthropocene and the frightening prospect of erasing history. With her eleventh studio album\, “Lo”\, Cole eloquently weaves the personal with the universal\, the shy with the provocative. She concludes with the uplifting “Flying Home”\, an homage to Max Erhmann’s “Desiderata”. \nFrom whispering poetry in a low alto range\, to opening her throat in primal scream\, Paula Cole’s voice is more commanding than ever\, revealing battle scars\, deep wisdom\, the soulfulness of gospel\, the urgency of rock\, and the sensitivity of folk. Cole plays piano\, Rhodes\, acoustic guitar\, clarinet and sings her artfully arranged background-vocals. She is a poet with a funky groove. \nCole has been a truth-teller\, a provocateur\, a feminist\, a rebel\, and a brilliant autobiographical writer who has pushed for personal honesty and social change. An artful weaver of genre\, she is difficult to categorize – she is simply Paula Cole. From her debut “Harbinger”\, in her androgynous combat boots and sensitive songs\, to the everlasting hits of “This Fire”\, to her genre-busting “Amen” (a neo-soul-touched tour de force) to a vibrant line of independent recordings on her own 675 Records label\, she has released music for over three decades\, recorded and performed with greats such as Peter Gabriel\, Dolly Parton\, Missy Elliot\, Meshell N’Degeocello\, Melissa Etheridge\, Herbie Hancock\, Sarah McLachlan\, Terri Lyne Carrington\, Emmylou Harris\, Nona Hendrix\, Paul Buchanan of The Blue Nile\, to John Paul White and Jason Isbell. \nShe was an instrumental force behind the historic Lilith Fair. Her songs have been covered by artists from Herbie Hancock and Annie Lennox\, to Lissie\, to HAIM\, sampled by hip hop artists\, and performed by choirs. Paula Cole has pushed buttons and boundaries\, declared truths and followed her own path of iconic vision. \nCole will be on tour in 2024 with concerts surrounding the release of “Lo”.

SUMMARY:The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) 50th Anniversary Screening with Original Cast & Crew
DESCRIPTION:Presented By Shadows of Salem Horror & Paranormal Convention \nCome celebrate 50 years of a rip roaring chain saw from Texas with screams of excitement and praise to honor the members of the original cast and crew for the years of horrifying nightmares! \nFeaturing…\nJohn Dugan “Grandpa” \nEd Guinn “The Truck Driver” \nEd Neil “The Hitchhiker” \nDaniel Pearl\, Cinematographer \nIn 1973 a small group of film students in Texas conjured a story and a small amount of money to create a film so shocking and violent that they left a permanent scar on celluloid and the public conscience\, forever changing cinematic history. \nThe Texas Chainsaw Massacre was unleashed unto the world in October of 1974 by Director Tobe Hooper and co-written with producer Kim Henkel\, the film stars Marilyn Burns\, Paul A. Partain\, Terri McMinn\, Allen Danziger\, William Vail\, Edwin Neal\, Jim Siedow\, John Dugan and Gunnar Hansen as Leatherface. Upon release\, the film was deemed so violent that it received an X rating and was banned in multiple countries. Contributing to the response was the billing of the film as a “true story”\, which was a marketing ploy to further affect audiences in an effort to attract more movie goers. \nWhat is impressive about the reception and filmmaking talents is that there is very little to no blood in the film which had audiences react in visceral ways as some passed out in their seats while others were sent running for the doors in shock and disgust. \nThe Texas Chainsaw Massacre is widely revered as one of the greatest and most controversial films of all time! \nOver the past 50 years\, the film as been recognized for its lasting presence and genre defining qualities. It has crushed endless Top 10 lists over the decades and in turn\, easily inspiring generations of filmmakers to create their own Versions of terror to be endured for future audiences. \n“As violent and gruesome and blood-soaked as the title promises” – Roger Ebert\n“A work of cataclysmic terror” – Stephen King\n“What kind of Mansonite Crazoid could have come up with such a thing” – Wes Craven \nThis presentation is the opening night of Shadows of Salem Horror & Paranormal Convention taking place in Salem\, MA October 19 and 20. For more information on the Convention\, go to theshadowsofsalem.com or email info@theshadowsofsalem.com.

SUMMARY:Jake Shimabukuro
DESCRIPTION:Music is a gift\, and the ability to play it is a blessing. Be grateful for both. – Anonymous \nWalking up the creaky wooden steps\, there are what seems like hundreds of slippers all around the front door. Soft music floats through the air\, inviting me to the back yard. Aunties and Uncles fill every lawn chair and the keiki run around in the freshly cut grass. There’s a warm breeze blowing and at least a dozen friends strum along\, kanikapila style\, to a tune we all know and everyone sings the words to. These are the songs of my life. I am home. And I am grateful. \nHe has captivated audiences around the world with his unique and dynamic style. With his mother as his first teacher of the instrument\, Jake embraced a deep love and respect for the `ukulele and has explored new and unexpected ways to push the boundaries of what was possible on the humble four-strings. Each album has showcased his mastery of the instrument and his ability to weave together diverse genres to create a cohesive and captivating musical experience. He is undoubtedly one of the most innovative and exciting musicians of his generation\, changing the perception of the instrument itself and breaking barriers of what kind of music it is capable of. \nEnter his newest\, and most personal album yet. Grateful is a coming home for Jake. With a literal who’s who of Hawai`i based musicians\, this collection of songs is performed live\, in studio with Jake’s friends\, contemporaries\, mentors\, and heroes – all kanikapila style in a return to his roots. Grateful is the follow-up to the critically acclaimed duets album with artists from Willie Nelson\, Ziggy Marley and Bette Midler to Jimmy Buffett\, Jack Johnson and Kenny Loggins. It was these collaborations that inspired him to go back to the beginning and play with the musicians who first inspired him as he was growing up in Hawai`i. Jake shares a connection with each and every artist on this album. \nIn addition to his impeccable musicianship\, Jake is also a gifted storyteller\, weaving together musical narratives that draw listeners in and leave them spellbound. He wanted to bring the power of each artist’s stories to this album.

SUMMARY:Angel Olsen (Solo): Songs From The Archive
DESCRIPTION:WITH KYLE RAY ON SUPPORT \nAngel Olsen is a songwriter\, musician\, performer and director of music videos. She delivers vulnerable songs with a distinctive warble informed by vintage country. Her early\, spare\, acoustic songs grew increasingly lush and dramatic across her several albums. Olsen debuted with the reverb-heavy solo indie folk of 2010’s Strange Cacti\, expanding to an alt-country power trio for her third album\, 2014’s Burn Your Fire for No Witness\, her Billboard 200 debut. Two years later\, My Woman reached a career-high number 47 on the chart. While maintaining an intimate character and a haunting sound reinforced by stylized echo\, Olsen recorded 2019’s All Mirrors with a 14-piece orchestra. The follow-up\, 2020’s Whole New Mess\, offered an overhauled solo version of All Mirrors that included a pair of original songs. Inspired by both love and loss tied up in coming out as queer\, her sixth studio album\, Big Time\, followed in 2022. \nShe has performed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert\, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon\, Jimmy Kimmel Live!\, and Austin City Limits TV\, and has been profiled in The New York Times Magazine\, Rolling Stone\, and Pitchfork\, to name a few. Her albums are regularly regarded as some of the highest lauded albums each year of their release. Olsen has collaborated with artists including Mark Ronson\, Sharon Van Etten\, Cass McCombs\, Hamilton Leithauser\, Marissa Nadler\, Jim James\, Madi Diaz\, and more. \nOn this tour\, Angel will be performing solo\, exploring songs from her entire catalog\, digging into songs and eras she does not often get to when performing with her band. \n– excerpts taken from Fred Thomas\, All Music

I am curious to a pathological degree and the Sword of Time hangs over me\, and those two things— curiosity and the hourglass— make me feel more urgent than ever to connect\, to find community\, and to create. It doesn’t matter what the world thinks\, it only matters that what is unsaid and what is unseen is given form and has a voice.’
