SUMMARY:Duane Betts & Palmetto Motel with Wilson & Walsh
DESCRIPTION:7/20/24\nPartial Seating & GA Standing. 7:00pm Doors\, 8:00pm Show\n21+\, Positive I.D. Required. $36-$42 \nBy the time Duane Betts began working on Wild & Precious Life — his triumphant debut solo album — he’d already spent the better part of two decades creating his own version of guitar-slinging\, story-driven American rock & roll. \n“It felt like the right time to make something that was entirely my own vision\,” he says. “This is a record that guitar players will love\, but at its core\, it’s really a song record. It’s an album about who I am\, where I come from\, and what I believe in.” \nDuane had spent 10 years playing guitar alongside his father\, legendary Allman Brother Dickey Betts. He’d release an EP\, Sketches of American Music and co-found Allman Betts Band. \nEven so\, the need to create a full-length solo LP gnawed at him; one that nodded to his roots while simultaneously pushing ahead. Following his instincts\, Duane assembled Johnny Stachela\, Berry Duane Oakley\, John Ginty and Tyler Greenwell\, and took up an offer from friends Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks to record at their Swamp Raga Studio in Jacksonville. The album was cut to 2-inch analog tape during a series of live studio performances in 2022.

SUMMARY:In Bloom Listening Series featuring Pete Lindberg\, Alexandra Grace\, and High Tea
DESCRIPTION:07/11/2024\nGA Seating and G.A Standing 7:00p doors / 8:00p show\n18+ under 18 must be accompanied by a parent $15 \nFeaturing Pete Lindberg | Alexandra Grace | High Tea \nPete Lindberg\nOwing as much influence to a John Prine lyric as a Koji Kondo composition for Nintendo\, Massachusetts-born singer/songwriter Pete Lindberg has been writing and performing original music since childhood\, gradually carving out a style his very own. After relocating to Nashville\, TN in the late aughts\, Lindberg went on to collaborate with artists such as Erin Rae\, Margo Price\, Luke Bell\, and Cale Tyson—performing in revered venues such as The Ryman Auditorium and Newport Folk Festival. \nAlexandra Grace\nDescribed by most as a singer-songwriter with an old soul\, Alexandra Grace lays her thought-provoking lyrics atop a bed of folk-influenced music\, creating eclectic and unique songs. \nAlexandra graduated Magna Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music in May 2020 with a B.M. in Songwriting and Vocal Performance and a minor in Psychology. Currently\, she is focusing on performing\, songwriting\, and recording. She also teaches private lessons in voice\, songwriting\, piano\, beginner guitar & ukulele at her music studio in Gloucester. \nAlexandra released her debut EP ‘ Solstice’ on May 14\, 2021. So far\, her songs have landed on some well known playlists and have been awarded “Song of The Week” from the John Lennon Songwriting Contest\, as well as Semi-Finalist in the International Songwriting Competition\, for her song ‘Medicine’. \nHigh Tea\nHigh Tea\, the indie folk-rock duo hailing from Massachusetts\, is a concoction of sweepingly soulful harmonies\, guitar riffs to knock your socks off\, and a refreshing blend of old blues and new rock. Isabella DeHerdt and Isaac Eliot have come together to fill spaces with homegrown storytelling and Lumineers-esque vocals. Their songs are ripe with americana heartbreak\, and tell tales of growing up\, going wild\, and always coming back to the ones you love. \nTheir previous releases\, Old Cowboy and The Wick And The Flame were featured on playlists\, radio shows\, and publications like The Boston Globe\, The Greenfield Recorder (among others). The title track of Old Cowboy led them to be chosen as one of WBUR’s top 4 Massachusetts Tiny Desk entries of 2022. They toured The Wick And The Flame on the West Coast\, in New England\, and throughout other US States and received write ups from Atwood’s Magazine\, The Boston Herald\, and more. \nTheir new EP\, Scuba Diving\, dives – literally and figuratively – into four very different worlds on each unique song. Listeners are led through an exhilarating and dangerous love story\, a struggle for independence from a lineage of harsh repression\, and an internal struggle against the feeling of hopelessness brought on by quick-fix culture\, all accompanied by dynamic guitar\, thumping drums\, and echoing harmonies. This journey of lyrical storytelling and compelling sound culminates in the title track and single from the album\, a personal and intimate story of hospitalization\, a search for mental health\, fear for a friend who is facing down demons\, and the fight for understanding an ally’s role within that story. Without a doubt\, Scuba Diving is some of High Tea’s most honest and eye-opening work yet.

SUMMARY:Mark Sandman Memorial Concert: Gone 25 Years But Not Forgotten
DESCRIPTION:7/5/24\nPartial Seating and G.A Standing. 7:30m Doors/8:30p Show\n21+\, Positive I.D. Required. $30-$40 \nJuly 3\, 2024 marks the 25th anniversary of Morphine front man Mark Sandman’s death\, felled by a heart attack in the middle of Morphine’s set at the Nel Nome Del Rock festival in Palestrina\, Italy on July 3\, 1999. To honor the anniversary\, a special night of Sandman’s music will be presented at The Cut on July 5th by Orchestra Morphine. Entitled “Mark Sandman Memorial Concert: Gone 25 Years But Not Forgotten”\, the concert will feature Sandman’s music performed by friends and bandmates\, including original Morphine members Dana Colley and Jerome Deupree. Formed in 1999 in the wake of Sandman’s passing\, Orchestra Morphine also includes members of Hypnosonics: Russ Gershon and Tom Halter (Either/Orchestra) and Mike Rivard (Club d’Elf). Special guests including Laurie Sargent\, Jimmy Ryan and Christian McNeill will interpet songs from the Morphine and Hypnosonics songbooks. \nSandman was an inspired songwriter\, conceptualist and multi-instrumentalist\, a fearless\, distinctive creative presence on the Cambridge\, Boston\, national and international music scenes. He rose to national fame in the late 80’s as a member of BMG recording artists Treat Her Right. In the early 90’s he formed Morphine with saxophonist Colley and drummers Deupree and the late Billy Conway\, which became an internationally touring cult band\, earning the praise of club kids\, critics and rock stars. \nNever constrained by one band format\, Sandman created numerous project bands and collaborations. He formed his “secret band”\, Hypnosonics\, in 1984 and the group remained active until his untimely death. A free-wheeling\, minimalist funk band\, the band never released any recordings while Sandman was alive. Finally in 2021\, the label Modern Harmonic released two LP’s of previously unreleased Hypnosonics sessions : Someone Stole My Shoes and Drums Were Beating. To commemorate the 25th anniversary of Sandman’s passing\, the label is releasing a two-disc (and single vinyl) set of more unissued Hypnosonics material: Middle East Rent Control Benefit 1994 / Knitting Factory NYC 1997. This very special event will also serve as the Release Party for the new Hypnosonics releases.

SUMMARY:Roomful Of Blues
DESCRIPTION:21+\, Posiive I.D. Required. 6:00pm Doors/7:00pm Show \nEven though Roomful of Blues’ lineup has changed over the years\, the band has always been one of the tightest\, most joyful blues ensembles in the world. Currently an eight-piece unit led by guitarist Chris Vachon\, the band has never sounded fresher or stronger. Singer Phil Pemberton brings his sweet and soulful vocals and adds another bright new dimension to the jazzy\, jump- blues musical roots. Their winning combination of jump\, swing\, blues\, R&B and soul remains their calling card\, as does their ability to fill the dance floor. Along with bassist John Turner\, trumpeter Carl Gerhard\, drummer Mike Coffey\, keyboardist Rusty Scott\, baritone and tenor saxophonist Alek Razdan\, tenor and alto saxophonist Rich Lataille\, Roomful keeps on rockin’ into 2024.

SUMMARY:Dueling Pianos!
DESCRIPTION:06/26/24\nPartial Seating/G.A. Standing 7:00pm doors / 8:00pm show\n21+\, Positive I.D. Required $20 \nIt has been said that a dueling piano show is quite literally “the most fun one can\nhave with one’s clothes ON! Two grand pianos are center-stage with a team of outrageously talented pianists that seem to know every song ever written. \nEach show is different because it’s all request and you or your friends might even\nget called up on stage for a bit of good humored fun and some unforgettable u-\ntube moments.Think YOU won’t sing along? Just TRY not too…. I dare ya! \nDueling piano shows are request oriented\, interactive sing-a-long shows wherein\ntwo piano players sit across from each other and trade songs. The dueling piano audience is used for the dueling aspect of the show. Audience members are pitted one-side-against-the-other. Examples of rivalries include country vs. rock\, men against women\, etc.

SUMMARY:Buffalo Nichols
DESCRIPTION:6/25/24\n21+\, Positive I.D. Required. 7:00pm Doors / 8:00p Show \nOn his second album\, The Fatalist\, Carl “Buffalo” Nichols does things with the blues that might catch you off guard. There’s 808 programming\, chopped up Charley Patton samples\, washes of synth. There’s a consideration of the fullness of the sonic stage and the atmospherics of the music that can only come with a long engagement with electronic music. But this is no gimmicky hybrid or attempt to turn the blues into 21st century music by simply dressing it with skittering hi-hats. Nichols’ vision for the blues is of a form of music that’s intimately tied to everyday life in 2023\, something that’s reflected not only in the choice of instrumentation\, but in the complexities of the songwriting and the gray areas his lyrics explore. This is music that comes straight from the present\, and as such\, it’s a reminder that the same shit that drove the first blues singers to pick up a guitar is still present behind the throbs of deep bass hits today. The Fatalist sounds unlike any blues record you’re likely to hear in 2023.

DESCRIPTION:6/23/2024\nPartial Seating and G.A. Standing. 7:00p Doors / 8:00p Show\n21+\, Positive I.D. Required. $20-$25 \nAfter a dizzying five-year span that saw the release of two stunning\, eclectic albums (Hard Won and Vanity\, which drew praise from the likes of Billboard and Rolling Stone) — followed by appearances at AmericanaFest\, the Newport Folk Festival\, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass\, and SXSW\, and tours with Iron and Wine\, Son Little\, and Adia Victoria — Lizzie No found herself at the forefront of a new vanguard of genre-defying artists. Her new album\, Halfsies (Thirty Tigers / Miss Freedomland)\, finds No situated among her peers while still searching for freedom — freedom from the constraints of categorization\, sure\, but more importantly\, freedom from the depths of her own personal despair and from an increasingly violent and nightmarish American cultural and political landscape.

SUMMARY:Jon Langford and The Bright Shiners with Jesse Ahern
DESCRIPTION:6/13/24\n21+\, Positive I.D. Required. 7:00p Doors / 8:00p show \nJon Langford and The Bright Shiners is a new project featuring welsh fundamentalist punk rocker Jon Langford (Mekons\, 3 Johns\, Waco Brothers etc.) teamed up with charismatic jazz singer and experimental keyboardist Alice Spencer (Shinyribs\, Barkers)\, fellow Four Lost Soul and guitar wizard John Szymanski and longtime deputy Mekon Tamineh Gueramy on violin and great hair. The album comes out on Tiny Global Productions of Valencia (Nightingales\, House of All) this April and is called Where It Really Starts. \nWhen Jesse Ahern walks onstage\, he looks like a regular guy — albeit one with a Gretsch guitar strapped across his body and an anchor tattoo under his right eye. As he tears through his set\, easily rousing brand new crowds to shout his choruses back in his face\, it’s clear Jesse could be everybody’s friend. \nAhern’s tunes hold high the clenched fists of the working class. Others put on full display the raw\, open heart of a man who is dedicated to love\, and has known enough loss to cherish what he has at home. Still others reveal the tender\, protective arms of a father who misses his kids when he’s off touring the world.
