Newburyport Art (NAA): Through His Eyes is an exhibition celebrating the work of photographer Jay McCarthy, on view from Wednesday, September 16th – Sunday, September 27th.

Jay was passionate about his craft of photography for over 50 years. Beginning with a love of film photography and slide work, Jay specialized in landscape and portrait work, but also found beauty in abstract and whimsical subjects. His award winning work has been shown in multiple galleries, corporations, and Institutions, and hangs in homes around the country and abroad.
A graduate of the University of Mass at Lowell, Jay attended the New York Institute of Photography. Following retirement from Project Management work at Wang Corp, Compac, and Fidelity, Jay served as President of the Board of Directors at Newburyport Art, and thoroughly enjoyed his years working there as Gallery Associate and Moderator of the Photo Interest Group. He particularly enjoyed introducing photography classes to Veterans and young students as well.
Jay was married to Nancy McCarthy who is hosting this exhibit. Inspired by Jay’s love of photography , his children and grandchildren have begun to follow in his creative footsteps. We lost our beloved Jay on January 18, 2025, and though he is deeply missed, the poignant beauty he captured will continue to live on ‘Through His Eyes’.
Please join Nancy McCarthy in a celebration of Jay’s life through his photography, including a public, cordial invite to the reception on Saturday, September 19th from 4:00-6:00 PM The gallery and reception are free and open to the public and all of Jay’s photographs are for sale.
