A boutique inn, restaurant, tavern and basement bar inside a 19th century mansion. Welcome, friends, to The Bell Inn & Tavern. This building, and the land it sits on, has a long and storied history.
The original building on this property was The Bell Tavern, a colonial gathering spot that became a place of controversy and legend. Built around 1740, the tavern was constructed when the area was part of Danvers, which years before had split from Salem. Beginning in 1775, the tavern was a notable central meeting location during the American Revolutionary War. Local minutemen even gathered in the courtyard before marching off to the war’s Battles of Lexington and Concord.
Our kitchen offers menus focused on New England comfort food, from burgers and baked clams to steaks and grilled fish. The wine list features American and French wines as an homage to our American Revolution history. Our beer and spirit lists feature breweries and distilleries from across New England. Our guests join us from around the world to have a quintessential New England experience, and we wish to spotlight the local businesses that make our corner a unique and wonderful place to live.
To be able to bring this beautiful mansion back to life is a responsibility we don’t take lightly; we are honored to be part of this community.
Whether you’re a local or a visitor, it’s our goal to make you feel at home here at The Bell Inn & Tavern. We have this idea that delicious food, good company, and a cozy place to rest your head will do the trick.
