Swampscott, MA

Swampscott is a beautiful and tranquil seaside community located 15 miles northeast of Boston along the coastline of the Atlantic Ocean.

The area in and around Swampscott was inhabited by indigenous people such as members of the Naumkeag, Pennacook, Pawtucket, and Massachusett tribes prior to European colonization.

Swampscott was an important destination for the wealthy at the beginning of the 20th century. While Revere Beach, which lies just several miles down the road, has the honor of technically being America’s first public beach, Swampscott was the de facto first resort town. White Court, President Calvin Coolidge’s Summer White House, was situated here, as well as the Mary Baker Eddy Historic House, considered the birthplace of Christian Science.
