Halibut Point, once home to a large granite-quarrying operation in the years around the turn of the 20th century, is cooperatively managed by The Trustees of Reservations and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Management (DEM). åÊ2.5 miles of trails offer the visitor the opportunity to scramble across ledges scarred for eons by wind and wave, examine tide pools teeming with marine life, or bird watch from weather-beaten bluffs overlooking dramatic surf. The state park operates a small visitor center and museum with public restrooms devoted to Halibut Point’s natural history and Cape Ann’s historic granite quarrying industry, of which Halibut Point’s Babson Farm Quarry was a major part. Halibut Point is one of 111 properties in the Commonwealth ‰ÛÒ including working farms, historic homesteads and gardens, community parks, barrier beaches and mountain vistas ‰ÛÒ owned and managed by the non-profit organization The Trustees of Reservations.
