Newburyport Harbor Light was built to aid navigation of the swift currents and shifting sands at the mouth of the Merrimack River which is dangerous and difficult to sail. Located on the northern end of Northern Blvd., Plum Island.
The Newburyport Harbor Light at Plum Island Point is now open for the season, weather permitting. The lighthouse is open for public viewing on the following dates: Aug 14th, Sept 11th, and Sept 25th. Lighthouse tours are offered from 1 to 4 p.m. Sneakers are required to climb the short ladder. Visitors must be at least 5 years of age and 42 inches tall. There is no fee; however, donations are appreciated. The Newburyport Harbor Light at Plum Island Point is operated by the Friends of Plum Island Light Inc., a nonprofit organization that directs and supports the restoration, preservation, and maintenance of the lighthouse.
